Apple Store is Coming to Charlottesville, One Way or Another

mac store charlottesville

Not sure if this is news, but I haven’t seen any mention of it since the Apple Store/Downtown Mall posting a while ago.  I was in the University Book store (on top of Newcomb parking garage) this afternoon and they have a bunch of renovations/new construction taking place next to Cavalier Computers.  While Cavalier has always stocked Macs and kept a dedicated display, this looks to be quite the upgrade.  Plastic sheeting was hung, but it appears that the new space will double or triple the size of Cavalier Computers (roughly a 20′x20′ room now).

I asked what was going on and the guys behind the counter told me that it was going to be an apple store; I can’t answer as to whether or not it’ll be staffed by Apple or University employees, presence of a genius bar, completion date, etc

If someone wants to call Cavalier Computers/hound them for more information, please step up to the plate!

I asked - it’s the new late night dance spot. It’ll be done in a couple weeks. The plastic sheeting is actually part of the decor. They’re going for a ‘being chased by a guy with a nailgun in a house under construction horror movie scene’ sort of vibe. Should be pretty awesome!

We took a look at it as a possible story today. The University Book Store says they’re expanding to make more room for more Apple products but say they will NOT be an Apple store.

    Bummer.

An Apple Store would rock because the trip to Richmond sucks. Best Buy may stock and service Apple Products, but the Geek Squad is more suited to PC Products.

/Nothing against their work, but they’re just better @ PC.

You guys are all wrong. Coran Capshaw bought it and is turning it into a late night dance club, I TOLD you.

Wrong. OXO is going to be the new Apple store.

Damn, I thought OXO was gonna be a house of ill repute.

Actually, you’re all right. It’s gonna be a Coran-Capshaw-owned Afghani Sushi Tapas Buffet with late night DJing by Steve Jobs. Unfortunately, the only song they ever play is “Return of the Mac.”

/no, really; it’s fine; I’ll see myself out.

Dude, that sounded like something parlie would say. Fail.

i heard that the new mac store is really a brick-and-mortar website. when you go in, they give you a white astronaut suit with a touch screen on the face. you just walk around and point at different stuff, and type on people faces like BAP-BAP-BRRRAPAPAP-BAP-BAP-[ENTER]. there is no talking allowed, only typing, and if you want to eat or drink anything you have to convert it all to m4a before you smash it into your faceplate.

nobody gets anything done, and when you leave you end up in google with a .MAC account and an extended warranty for your laptop case.

He has a hot remix of ‘Mac the Knife’ as well. He also plays a lot of Fiona Apple. Oooh also Mac Daddy by mixalot (obvi).
