Tuffy wrote last month about the Coca Cola bottling plant giving away its corn syrup barrels for us cVillains to make home-made rain barrels. Marilyn Bartoes of the CCE Charlottesville responds:
Hi everyone,
I know this has been a long time coming as a reply to your inquiries. I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of interest in obtaining barrels for rain water. I’ve tried to include all of the e-mail addresses that I received, but if I’ve missed anyone, please do share this with them.
I’m sending this off to let you know that the best way for anyone interested to get rain barrels would be to contact the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District (TJSWCD). I have been in contact with one of the program directors there, and we’ve already been able to deliver to them our first supply of barrels (unfortunately, someone stole out of our yard here at Coca-Cola on Preston Ave. 10 of the 40 we were shipped, so we were only able to deliver 30!). The TJSWCD offers workshops on making rain barrels and more information can be obtained by visiting their website at tjswcd.org. The Easement and Education Programs Coordinator, Garnett Mellen, also indicated that they would be happy to put together workshops at other locations, such as UVA, if there was a group interested in arranging that.
Thanks to each of you for doing your part in trying to conserve our resources. I hope to receive periodic shipments of barrels and plan to distribute these to the TJSWCD for their workshops.
Marilyn

Thank you Marilyn! Tuffy also included a guide on how to construct the rain barrel as well. Happy watering!

way to go coke and TJSWCD. Boo thieves.
at least they are stealing for a good cause? or is it for meth?
Shorter this guy’s e-mail.
I stole the barrels for my monkeys, as I have not been having very much fun lately.
Should I not have done that?
Are they having more fun than if they were in the barrels? Monkey pee is a good fertilizer and a good way to keep cats and echo out of your yard.
Are they having more fun than if they were in the barrels?
Its always hard to tell with monkeys.
Vanillavy! Awesome. Believe it or not, Marilyn never got back in touch with me, but it’s great that you posted this. Good perseverance.
