Are Roofies Hitting Charlottesville?

 Roofies Charlottesville

We’ve heard from various sources that they or someone they know has had an experience that sounds like roofies were involved.

One account:

My friend thinks she might have been drugged on Friday night. She came in to BAR and then she went to ANOTHER BAR and had a drink then next thing she remembers she was crawling in the road and almost got run over. She didn’t drink that much so we’re pretty suspicious.

I have another friend who had something similar happen to her at BAR a few months ago.

We’ve also heard stories of date rape pills being found at another bar.  We’re hesitant to name the places, but if anyone has any other experiences, please share.

This is a very serious manner and I haven’t heard of these situations occurring in Charlottesville, so I thought it was worth a discussion.

    Except you mentioned BAR [changed].

(you can mention it again - Editor’s Note)

Ok, well I won’t tell you the name of this BAR but it starts with a C and there was like a whole bottle of Roofies under a table one night.

@4, I don’t know cause it’s not like we have a lot of data to back this up.. it probably happens at all bars, we just hear about it at certain ones.

@5– hmmmm… ok. If I’m guessing correctly, that may not be too surprising.
@6– sure, I understand– but still, some anecdotal information is enough for me when it comes to something like this. It’s not like I typically leave drinks unattended for long, but -still.- (and again, totally not the establishment’s fault.)

I think we should name the places. Girls have a right to know where other girls are being roofied, maybe they will be more careful and maybe somebody reading this might know something and offer up some info. Anyways, it’s not the bar’s fault a girl gets roofied there, it’s whoever it is that’s carrying around Roofies.

  9. 02 Jul 2008 at 10:15 amecho said:

Is there any reason why we shouldn’t name the bars? Like everyone before me said, it’s not their fault, and no one is blaming them.

  10. 02 Jul 2008 at 10:17 amshenanigans said:

BTW, the story at the top of the page happened at OXO and Cassis. Doesn’t mean those two bars are to blame, means somebody who has Roofies was hanging out at one of these bars.

I’m in favor of naming places where people are concerned that this might have happened. People need to know where to be vigilant. Someone who is going to decide to avoid going to a bar because its named in this post/thread is more likely to avoid going to bars period in the absence of specific information, so I don’t think anyone would be harming a bar by listing it as a place where some awful person may be trying to prey on others.

Naming the bar isn’t as important as finding the a-holes who do this is. We need to work together to watch out for these sick individuals. If you see something like this talk to the bartender or call the cops. This is a crime pure and simple and these sick people need to be caught and punished.

@17: The scary thing is we were REALLY careful the night of the incident from the top of the page. I made her first drink, she went to a bar she used to work at for her second drink where a friend served her, and she made her third drink herself. She even left the drink on the bar at one point and some other people walked up and I grabbed her drink and moved it to the end of the bar and kept an eye on it till she got back. We think it happened while she was outside, that she put her drink down for a minute. There was this dude hanging around her that she doesn’t normally hang out with. Tall, with reddish hair.

If you’re that desperate do us all a favor, drug yourself and just pass out in the corner.

@22 I’ve heard this story from several people all referring to the same incident, and I also heard that the person in question was NOT as careful as you say and drank way more than she should have. Maybe some girls should take responsibility for their actions after they drink too much and black out.

I do think roofies are real and a problem, but I also think we should be sure of our stories before we go around slandering bars.

  49. 02 Jul 2008 at 1:18 pmfebreze said:

@42 exactly, you’re slandering a lot of bars. Saying things like that makes people go, “oh well, I’m not going there again,” when it could happen anywhere. This kind of thing happens all the time to UVA kids, so no, roofies are not “hitting” charlottesville, they’ve been here.

Yeah, you didn’t read comment 10 did ya? Naming bars is not slander. People have a right to know where stuff is going on. They might know something too. Doesn’t mean the bar itself is to blame. That backs up my source, including the description.

I had GHB put in a drink in a different city. Luckily, I’m trained to know about this stuff and while I was in no condition to do anything about it at the time, in the morning, I went through the proper steps to document it. It turned out that a bartender had put it in my drink.

Now, I’m not vilifying bartenders, but I want to put it out there that you need to watch your drink from the moment it’s being poured until you’re finished with it.

Even the sign of the establishment where I was drugged makes me feel ill. I can’t walk by it. Can’t contemplate stepping foot in it. I’m not a shy, timid little thing, either. But if someone mentions going to the place (most of my friends know better), I’m thrown back to that horrible feeling.
