HEADACHES!!!
We are hearing about big problems with AT&T service in Central Virginia. Users are experiencing dropped calls, lack of outgoing texts amongst many other problems.
These problems started yesterday evening at the latest and still no updates on when the problem will be fixed.
If you are on AT&T and having problems, let us know what you’ve been experiencing and when it all started!
Update #1 11AM, July 2nd - It appears that AT&T problems are affecting ALL AT&T customers in Central Virginia.
Update #2 11:15AM, July 2nd - It appears that AT&T mobile customers have NO VOICE AND NO TEXT MESSAGING abilities.
Update #3 3:45PM, July 2nd - Intermittent service reported, but most customers still have problems.
Update #4 11PM, July 2nd - Service seems to be fixed. Let us know if you experience anything otherwise.
Update #5 4PM, July 3rd - Service still intermittant. Mysterious calls from Number 1. No word on 007.

two friends have claimed to text me this week and not get through. I have no idea what service they use. Hey friends, what service do you use? Someone else had no service for hours last night, but I just got a very happy message their phone is working again. for now.
I use verizon on a cheap phone, which means very limited access but at least it’s consistent.
Yep, since about 8pm last night in the city I’ve been getting SOS, no signal, searching for network, etc. This morning I was only able to get on GSM, not EDGE. Seems to be working now, but I haven’t done much since I got to the office.
Three co-workers with AT&T reporting service issues, which started last night.
Yeah, my reception disappeared last night for a couple of hours. WTF? More bars my ass.
I have definitely been having problems with AT&T. This morning my phone popped up with a ‘ 7 new voice mails’ notice that went back to Saturday and I definitely had my phone on and supposedly had service the whole time. Service at my apt. has been worse than usual as well though. rawr.
It’s not just me??? Oh thank god. I haven’t been able to make a call all morning and my reception has been bouncing from 4 bars to 0 in minutes.
It’s driving me nuts. I just drove by the store on Emmet and there was a line out the door. I got service back briefly last night around midnight, but nothing since. I feel like someone cut off both my hands. I never realized how dependent I was on this cancer inducing metal brick.
Could not get on EDGE, only GSM and i could not make a call. I am back on EDGE now

unrelated, I also got an email an hour after it was sent last night and a few others maybe 20 minutes late and out of order.
I think there’s some sort of message here about being ridiculously dependent on immediate communication.

Yup, same here. This is insane - can’t make calls, can’t receive them, no data. My phone’s a brick.
AT&T does tell you. I’ve called in to complain about our service a number of times and they all tell me that their tower coverage isn’t good here. Well, then, maybe they shouldn’t advertise fewer dropped calls in our area. Class action for false advertising!

I must exist in some sort of Sprint Twilight Zone. I’ve dealt with them since 2000 with nothing but stellar results, and yet I’ve heard tons of horror stories. It’s the one big company I deal with that I don’t want to defenestrate.
apparently sprint must never have outages for them to pwn ATT.
i distinctly remember this not being the case when I was on sprint.
also, worst customer service (2008 consumer reports rated) — and i can directly attest to that as well.
Its an uneven problem, I had 0 bars at my apartment downtown last night, and kept going back and forth. It was so bad that I couldn’t call my buddies, and had to ask random strangers at the bar if any of them had a bowl.

i have ATT, and my phone works fine, so i really don’t care (aside from harboring a hatred of sprint).
though they did provide some entertainment in the form of awesome yelling matches with their CSRs and managers.

Still not back up, no Edge, cell serv. in and out. Go inside no bars at all. Switched to AT& T for iphone but what good is it with no service, just an itouch i guess.
I keep “forgetting” to pay my bill because they seem to keep “forgetting” to provide me any consistent service. I’m still blinking in and out occasionally.

I called this morning after thinking they disconnected my service. It’s been worse where I live for the past 2-3 months and wasn’t that great to start with here and I had just gone into the store 2 days ago to find out about it and say I was looking for a new company. I was told that all of VA and WV’s AT&T service was out and had a co-worker tell me her Alltel was out too. My other AT&T co-workers and I got service back around 11 or so but my Alltel co-worker left after 3 pm still with no service. Did I miss some tornado last night?

Service seems to be working now. I can talk now…:-) but the square that used to have the E in for EGDE is now just a square.
Once again and after much intermittent service for 2 days, I have NO service on my iPhone–no voice calls, no texting, no voicemail.

Tell me you guys are joking! We’ve had cruddy service here in central CA for a couple of years, before then it was really great. It got so bad that I described my position (literally) to the Cust Svc Rep… stand on 1 leg, other on cabinet, rt hand on door jamb and hoping it wouldn’t drop me. It dropped 3 times trying to get to their Rep.. 3rd try I yelled in phone… GET ME TO SECOND TIER SUPPORT NOW and give them my house phone # in case we’re dropped!
Not much they can do. They are losing towers everywhere. Service got so bad, so many complaints, that they lost rating with BBB back in 2004.

The basic fact is not enough towers. There is no AT&T signal at all from 8 miles south of C’ville to Sweet Briar on 29 S. ATT Boasts Va coverage to be exceptional in their ads= class action suit in order.
29s is alltel country, get used to it. i hear t-mobile might work down there too, and they’re more reputable than the a. you can carry a second phone for next to nothing if you prepay.
I am a recent cell phone convert, and as such have nothing to compare to. But I have had a phone with nTellos, and have maybe dropped only four or five calls in the last year and a half. This is from DC to cville to deep nelson county. Just sayin.
ATT can forever bite my ass for their aggressive complicity with the NSA in flushing the constitution down the toilet. Anyone that gives them a dime is, well… its your money. Vote however you want with it.
Sprint / Embark can forever bite my ass for years of extreme customer service grief when I had a land line. Once bitten twice shy.
i’m not sure what the deal is with the phone service i dont use or have coverage through at&t how ever have been experinceing problems for the past 2 nites when ever trying to call my bf.. i keep receiving the message stateing that the caller i am trying to reach is currently not accepting calls..last nite it got bad enough he had to call me from a friends phone because apparently he is unable to make or receive calls.. was hopeing this problem would be resolved but so far is showing no hopes in it being any time tonite..
We’ve had no service since sunday. Getting busy signals and “call failed” messages. We live in arkansas and this is the first time we’ve had problems like this but it’s FRUSTRATING to the max!!!! We have no land line to fall back on. Makes me wonder WTH’s going on.
@72 Could be your phone. Cell phones are cheap and have short lives. Sometimes. Could also be the network. I don’t have ATT so I can’t say how that’s been the last 24 hrs. You live in the land of Clinton, but are you visiting Cville? Or still down there.
I’m in a county just north of Atlanta and my AT&T cell service is worse than dismal. My house has become a dead-zone slowly over the past six months. Tech Support blames everything but themselves…even though they have admitted to five area towers needing repairs. I’m not crazy…all four of my phones have less then one bar, and more often–no bars at all. My calls are being dropped on the road as well. My phones are all new and have been uploaded with whatever new stuff Tech Support has stuffed in them. Then I receive follow-up calls stating “the problems is solved–or there was never a problem–or our techs drove through your area and found no problems!” Really–then why do I have no bars on my phone???????? AT&T really sucks! Been a great customer for seven years (Cingular back them). Would change to Sprint, but coverage area is vague and Verizon has too many hoops to jump through. ERRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
