AT&T Cell Phone Service is Screwed Up in Central Virginia and Charlottesville

HEADACHES!!!

We are hearing about big problems with AT&T service in Central Virginia.  Users are experiencing dropped calls, lack of outgoing texts amongst many other problems.

These problems started yesterday evening at the latest and still no updates on when the problem will be fixed.

If you are on AT&T and having problems, let us know what you’ve been experiencing and when it all started!

Update #1 11AM, July 2nd - It appears that AT&T problems are affecting ALL AT&T customers in Central Virginia.

Update #2 11:15AM, July 2nd - It appears that AT&T mobile customers have NO VOICE AND NO TEXT MESSAGING abilities.

Update #3 3:45PM, July 2nd - Intermittent service reported, but most customers still have problems.

Update #4 11PM, July 2nd - Service seems to be fixed. Let us know if you experience anything otherwise.

Update #5 4PM, July 3rd - Service still intermittant.  Mysterious calls from Number 1.  No word on 007.

    two friends have claimed to text me this week and not get through. I have no idea what service they use. Hey friends, what service do you use? Someone else had no service for hours last night, but I just got a very happy message their phone is working again. for now.

    I use verizon on a cheap phone, which means very limited access but at least it’s consistent.

    Yep, since about 8pm last night in the city I’ve been getting SOS, no signal, searching for network, etc. This morning I was only able to get on GSM, not EDGE. Seems to be working now, but I haven’t done much since I got to the office.

    I have definitely been having problems with AT&T. This morning my phone popped up with a ‘ 7 new voice mails’ notice that went back to Saturday and I definitely had my phone on and supposedly had service the whole time. Service at my apt. has been worse than usual as well though. rawr.

    It’s driving me nuts. I just drove by the store on Emmet and there was a line out the door. I got service back briefly last night around midnight, but nothing since. I feel like someone cut off both my hands. I never realized how dependent I was on this cancer inducing metal brick.

    I must exist in some sort of Sprint Twilight Zone. I’ve dealt with them since 2000 with nothing but stellar results, and yet I’ve heard tons of horror stories. It’s the one big company I deal with that I don’t want to defenestrate.

    I called this morning after thinking they disconnected my service. It’s been worse where I live for the past 2-3 months and wasn’t that great to start with here and I had just gone into the store 2 days ago to find out about it and say I was looking for a new company. I was told that all of VA and WV’s AT&T service was out and had a co-worker tell me her Alltel was out too. My other AT&T co-workers and I got service back around 11 or so but my Alltel co-worker left after 3 pm still with no service. Did I miss some tornado last night?

    Not much they can do. They are losing towers everywhere. Service got so bad, so many complaints, that they lost rating with BBB back in 2004.

Tech Support blames everything but themselves…even though they have admitted to five area towers needing repairs. I’m not crazy…all four of my phones have less then one bar, and more often–no bars at all. My calls are being dropped on the road as well. My phones are all new and have been uploaded with whatever new stuff Tech Support has stuffed in them. Then I receive follow-up calls stating “the problems is solved–or there was never a problem–or our techs drove through your area and found no problems!” Really–then why do I have no bars on my phone???????? AT&T really sucks! Been a great customer for seven years (Cingular back them). Would change to Sprint, but coverage area is vague and Verizon has too many hoops to jump through. ERRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
