At 3:10PM today, the Charlottesville Police Department responded for a man down call in the 700 block of Madison Avenue in the City. Police officers responding to the call located a victim, Kenneth Townsend (born 02/03/1987), from Charlottesville in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Madison Avenue.
Townsend had been shot at least one time in the torso. One witness reported seeing three males fleeing from the area. Investigators are currently canvassing the area for witnesses and obtaining a search warrant to search the victim’s apartment. Investigators are also exploring a possible link between the victim and the suspects. At this point, investigators do not feel that this was a random shooting.
The victim is being treated at the University of VA hospital with serious but non-life threatening wounds. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Detective Jim Mooney at 970-3374.
