Since it’s summertime and the students have started their return to Charlottesville, bars should be triphopping this weekend. Besides the obvious music and arts events covered by cvilleMUSE, we’ve got a few events that might float your boat or tube. Whether it’s a barbeque or bluegrass, you have no excuse to get off your butt and go do stuff. Let us know if we missed anything!
As always, you can do your happy hour Friday wine tastings at Crush, Market Street Wine Shop and Beer Run.
James River Runner can hook you up with an inflatable tube on Saturday or Sunday. You supply the beer and you’ve got an instant recipe for sunburn, debauchery and more. Nudity is expected by at least one person on the river on any given Saturday.
Louisa County is having a BBQ festival called “Que and Cruz 2008” which will feature some of the East Coast’s finest BBQ. It costs $5 and all of the proceeds go to a local fire department. Additionally, the event is a sanctioned competitive bbq event, so you’ll get some awesome food should you decide to bless your body with some of the most amazing tasting food out there. If you are interested in predicting winners, read Pigs on the Run’s coverage of a recent Chesapeake contest.
If you don’t mind a little driving, you should visit the Callaghan Bluegrass Festival in Covington, VA.
Friday is an open house at McCormick Observatory. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend you check it out. It’s pretty cool and no one ever said you had to believe in aliens to like looking at the stars. Bring your date and then “go on a walk” after you are done.
Enjoy your weekends!

Pretty sure James River Runners is booked.. I tried to up the amount of people we’re taking on our tubing trip, and they told me it was impossible, too slammed this weekend.
I’ll have to remember to post a review or something next week, first time tubing and it sounds like it should be a lot of fun.
Nice preview Thor.

Excellent. Too bad you won’t be able to party, but the extra cash should be nice.
@6, Shen, I’ll be bringing an out-of towner in on Saturday b/c the X rocks my house off. Who’s in the booth that night? Bony Motel?
@7:Oh, I’ll be partying. Making mojitos. Trying to keep drinks out of the way of the dancing chicks on the bar. Gimme all your $$$. We are living in a material world and I am a material girl.
