When Yuppies Get Mad at Yuppies

Parking Jobs Charlottesville

This was sent in from a “concerned citizen” addressed to a police officer.

I saw this car parked in a space designated for “Marked Police Vehicles Only,” while walking into the downtown ACAC yesterday. Unless a Porsche Boxster is now a marked police vehicle in VA, the car was illegally parked. Parking is tight at ACAC due to the construction, but not that tight. I was able to find a space in the lot, it was just a little farther away.

See the attached picture for evidence of the infraction. It was not marked as a police car.

Now who wins here?  Or who loses?   We need to keep getting in these Charlottesville bad parking jobs sent in people!  Original bad parking job, and my favorite bad parking job.

I guess the question I failed to ask is. WHY DOES ACAC NEED A POLICE OFFICER SPOT?

That is 100% crazy-town! I often see a cop or sheriff’s car at acac. I assume that the cop is off duty and able to take the car home (weird in and of itself) and - in my mind - ineligible for any special privileges. Now if they’re on duty I can see why in the interest of public safety they might warrant a special space, but that raises another question. WTF are they doing working-out ON DUTY?

/they should all be arrested … oh wait

That’s the City for you! They pay for their gym membership at ACAC and then they give curbside parking.

When I was walking home from work yesterday, I walked by a car parked halfway on the sidewalk across from the Cafe Europa/Pacino’s area on the Corner, but it didn’t occur to me to take a picture. It was pretty ludicrous.

You know that guy at the ACAC who is comprised of a vessel of douche? You know the one. He spends most of his time hitting on the cougars, rather than contemplating his OMIGOD bicep in the funny weightlifting mirror?

Yeah, I always called him “The Boxster” in my head. So, quite plainly, it’s his car.

Actually, it’s sort of refreshing seeing someone really embracing his inner douche. To be that much of a douchebag just doesn’t “happen”. It takes dedication, genetics and just a little bit of luck.

Well since they get paid crap to take boat loads of garbage and when you want one you REALLY want to know where they are at I will give them the benefit…

Actually, most oficers cannot even afford to live in Cville due to the starting pay. Tons of open positons that they cannot fill as the police have to put up with the sketchy Garrett/Hardy drive element, snotty UVa brats and entitled gen X’ers giggling through their designer martinis.

    Mmmm….. sounds tasty for 28K.

Oh, and if something does happen and they get an emergency call from you,I suspect you want them ASAP, which means THEN you would like them as close to their car as they can be which means…pretty parking space.

@11 Trust me, the Garrett/Hardy drive “element” as you so compassionately call the people who live there, has to put up with plenty of sketchy cops, too.

@11 I wouldn’t constitute being inside ACAC which happens to have a police car space out front as close to their car for an emergency. Unless there is some sort of police substation inside ACAC there is no need for an officer (on duty) to be in there frequently enough to deem a special space appropriate. I can see places like the mall where police are frequently used for extra security having one. And as mentioned earlier (see 2) if the officer is off duty in a marked car, then he/she may park just like the rest of us who are “off duty” from work.

With that said, it is pretty douchey to be parked in a space that clearly is not for you. Bad Porsche driver, bad!

If giving cops a special parking spot at ACAC makes them more likely to work out (and more likely to actually be able to chase bad guys), I’m a-okay with that. Although I have a feeling the space is there in case someone gets injured and the cops are the first responders vs. the rescue squad… although I do see Chief Longo there all the time… hmmm.

I do find it hillarious when people who are GOING TO THE GYM complain about how far they have to walk from their parking space to get there. Blah blah blah have to park on the street when the lot is full blah blah blah.

@11 As a former law enforcement officer, I can say with authority the starting pay in this town is not that bad. Sure you get more in other places (Nj for example is insane good money, but only in the better tax brackets) and that there are a lot of options for the poor nurses, cops and fire fighters in this town to get a home in charlottesville through Piedmont housing Alliance etc. But many of them want the dream 3000 sq ft McMansion in the Highlands or Western Ridge etc. rather than having to live in town. Seriously, if you can afford a McMansion in Albemarle, you can afford amodest home in Charlottesville. Its not like the county is that much cheaper.
The people who really can’t afford this place are your janitors, car washers, dish washers, receptionists, PVCC students, entry level office workers etc. Those motherfuckers get no handouts and no respect.
So the police can go cry themselves to sleep in their pillows, cause working here is a fuckin cake walk. Grady/prospect? Joke. Uva brats? joke. I honestly cant think of a better place to be a police officer. This town has just enough interesting shit going down to make it fun but no really serious shit, even with ms-13, bloods, crips, east side gangs all moving in here.

Considering I have seen people come out of the gym, refuse to take a step off the curb, walk all the way around until they find one of those ramps, then jump in their SUV which has a step 2 feet off the ground which was RIGHT next to the exit… it doesn’t surprise me. I don’t get people, they do insane amounts of work to avoid the smallest things, or get themselves worked up over nothing, just to waste a lot of time.

Last time I was at that ACAC there was a dead bird outside the window, since the whole side of the building is clear glass, it is common, but I felt compelled to explain to 3 separate women that a dead bird outside a massive glass wall was not a bad omen towards them specifically. Since, it was a public place, a common assurance, and they were getting worked up (very upset) over something ridiculous like that.

Folks in this town seem far too detached from reality.

    Maybe it’s because reality sucks.
