Umm… what?
The Onion has funny, satirical news stories?
Thor, thanks for phoning it in!
Once again, not to be an ass, but North Garden ain’t Charlottesville. Dr. Ho’s is the best pizza in North Garden and on 29 South, yes!
It’s a lot better than that Mr. 622. Top three are Crozet, Ho and Fabio. And Mona. Then V.Nova and the delicious grease fest that is Annas #5.
Thurston, why the NYC steakhouse linky?
Colfer,
is Crozet Pizza ever open? i’ve never seen it open and have heard that if you want a pizza for dinner on a Saturday you have to order it at lunch time…
/Crozet Pizza is a riddle wrapped in a mystery. warm, doughy mystery.
Last coupla times I went you could just walk in. But it’s been a while. Been busy rescuing kittens.
Paging dijonbray to the green Crozet Pizza courtesy phone. Paging dijonbray…
Do you think Dr Ho is married with kids? That would mean his family is comprised of Dr and Mrs Ho and all the little Ho’s. Not sure I want all those little Ho’s sticking their fingers into my dough. Uggh…. and ewwww.
9: When they travel, they have to check their Ho bags.
WTF is a Ho bag?
like Big Daddy Kane said, anything goes when it comes to Ho’s.
I heard their Hawaiian pizza was endorsed by Don Ho
13: I hear if you buy it for your date, you’ll totally get lei’d.
Well damn, I dont much like pizza (yea I know, not like pizza? im weird like that) -but this makes me want to try it anyway
i’m a fan of Dr Ho’s Cajun Pizza with andouille sausage and crawfish. YUM!
it’s a really nice place to stop on the way to Wintergreen, and then you don’t have to cook when you get there!
@16 Blue Ridge Pig.
16-7: Blue Mountain Brewery.
Basic Necessities
Blue Ridge Pig has a great veggie sandwich. I recommend it highly. Has anyone here reviewed it?
Thor talked about it here but no word on the veggie option. Please note Thor’s reference to his farting habits and mention that it’s a “homely” experience. Um, did you mean homey maybe?
gawd i LOVE blue ridge pig, Best BBQ period. C’mon let’s have the BBQ debate just once more.
No, seriously BRpig is THE best. And the turkey croissant’ is deeeeelish too!
@18 Starlight Cafe (lynchburg) now carries Blue Mountain Brewery Beer!
BR Pig is pretty good, very rustic and distinctive, but as I grew up in Eastern NC, it’s not “the best” BBQ to me. I will say that stopping in at BMB on the way up the mountain is a good idea, but Dr Ho’s and BMB aren’t exactly on the same route, so it’s kind of an either/or situation. i don’t know that the Pig is open late enough for a post-work Friday evening stop on the way.
i’ve never been to BRP
but i had a surprisingly enjoyable bbq sandwich at AT&T park tuesday. some dude gave me his club tickets at a bar monday night. good things happen when i go to bars.
back to topic: i love pizza.
Ah, Orchid. I used to go to see games at PacBell park when I lived & worked in SF. They had these Portuguese water dogs that would swim the Bay for out-of-the-park homeruns on Saturdays.
@23
Eastern NC style is my favorite barbecue, and while I have found one or two places near town that I’d call ‘good’; none of them would qualify for great. It’s all about your preference, and sadly mine is underrepresented around here.
The only local barbecue I’ve had that I’d call great came from individuals doing their own backyard smoking.
/pork butt + wood chips + vinegar = best. heart failure. ever.

Oh yeah… but BR pig does fall into the ‘good’ category.
just want you to know this went straight to my spam folder this morning - wonder how much Ho news i’ve been missing…
you should always check your spam for news about ho’s. “bitches and ho’s,” i always say.
that’s always what i say.
when I lived & worked in SF
What neighborhood?
/Outer Richmond bay bee!!! 43rd and Balboa represent!
@30 It was sort of Western Addition/Pac-Heights cusp. California and Broderick (one up from Divis)
dot-com boom era, or I couldn’t have afforded it, fo sho.
@26/27
My choice for Eastern NC BBQ is Parkers, out of Wilson, NC (it was where my Granddad took us after church on Sundays) and I still have my brother and parents bring it to me whenever they come up from down there. BRP is definitely good, and is the closest locally to what i would consider NC style. i try to make a point of stopping at the Pig whenever possible.
Also, if you’re traveling the 95S corridor, The Georgia Pig was always damn good. Right off the highway as you cross into Georgia.
Lexington Barbecue #1, Lexington, NC
Wilber’s Barbecue Goldsboro, NC
/Two NC styles, both to die for
@34
Wilber’s is AWESOME. Goldsboro is where i grew up (and where my Mom is from). Her dad was partial to Parkers, and for the experience i am too, but straight up BBQ-wise, Wilber’s is amazing.
Thor, I just got back from having dinner there. It’s amazing and I just wanted to share… Had Filet Mignon on the bone. Did not know it existed.
are you different from thurston622? seems unlikely.
it’s not like meat grows on a tree… wait.. Dr Ho’s has filet ?
