Was it a bad idea to post the crane pictures?

 crane charlottesville

We got an email from someone who didn’t like us posting pictures of someone crawling to the top of the downtown mall crane.  It read:

The nighttime pictures from the top of the tower crane in C-Ville are a disservice to the community.

The pictures only invite others to try the same thing…[personally identifiable information redacted] I find your posting of the pictures irresponsible.

Will you be as quick to post the pictures of someone who falls to their death trying to copy the stunt ?

We obviously don’t want to make you guys mad, so stuff like this is your call…

Should we have posted pictures from the top of the crane?

I have no problem with ethics of posting. The poor quality is what should have caused them to hit the bin.

I know Michael…. but unfortunately Annie Leibovitz was fully booked taking porn shots of some Disney starlet, otherwise we would have hoisted her expert ass up there.
/I have an e-crush on whoever climbed the crane… unless the shakiness is Parkinson’s Disease in which case all bets are off.

I dont think it was wrong to post the pictures. Maybe that person should check out what is on the daily news everyday - I guess they think that is irresponsible too.

Anyone who wants to try and copy the person who took the photos does so at their own risk. It is certainly not your responsibility to keep in check the morons out there. Plus its not like you said, Hey, check these photos out! Now get out there and take some of your own! But make sure they are of better quality! ;)

I would just say thank you for your input to the poster and move on :)

thor, you forgot to add the part where ‘villains are in a hypnotic state and we do whatever you tell us to do, because we have no brains left since zombiecho ate them all.

so I don’t know if you should or shouldn’t keep the pics up but…

I actually heard this on the radio Friday Morning..

After this episode , I’m sure they will be keeping an eye out for uninvited guests.

    From 1070 WINA Newsradio
“The big crane downtown is vandalized
Charlottesville Police say the big crane (pictured) at the downtown construction site was vandalized during the overnight hours of Wednesday. City Police Sgt. Mike Farruggio says somebody broke into the site in the area of Second and Water Streets. Farruggio says the suspects squirted grease around, turned some knobs and spray-painted an object. (Listen to Sgt. Farruggio) Farruggio says the integrity of the crane was not compromised”

    so it may be that

Not only should Cvillain post the pictures, someone should climb it, shoot a wire over to the roof of the Omni and tight-rope across in an era-defining dance of elan.

Ummm…how are Floozy and Shenanigans not the prime suspects!? I’m calling Longo.

Tuffy…. I told Shen to finish her Riverside cheeseburger before we climbed up the huge erection, and as regards knob turning… they were just there and so knobby and well, turnable. Meh,expected bigger but what’s a girl to do.
/BTW I just realized Longo is a very funny name.

So many criticisms of the photo quality. I’m surprised the interloper managed to snap off any at all, after scaling such a tall specimen.

Farruggio says the suspects squirted grease around, turned some knobs and spray-painted an object. (Listen to Sgt. Farruggio) Farruggio says the integrity of the crane was not compromised however Haidee Cline is being consulted on how to make the newly colored object work with the existing crane color scheme. Early reports are just in and it appears that she is working with the idea of a few throw pillows in various shades of muted teal, and a raw silk seat cover in this seasons hottest yummy tone … a zingy lime green. Health and Safety concerns prevented her from completing her crane ensemble, as the proposed hand-woven antique Afghan rug prevented the crane operator from reaching several of the floor pedals.

Thor… that was linked to cvillestyle? WTF happened?

Eh, who cares? The person who took them obviously is part of this “community” on cVillain. They were rewarded by the comments, I guess, and that was that. I don’t think everyone who saw the pictures immediately made plans to climb the stupid thing.

    what link do you want?

I just linked Haidee’s name to her site and it comes up with cVillain instead. Way spoooky….

The pics were very cool, and anyone else who was thinking of climbing the crane would have already thought of it regardless of the photos. From my observations of that work site, it’s extremely unsecure and unsafe, so the grumpy whiner who emailed you should contact the construction company if they are genuinely concerned. Until then, maybe someone with a zoom lens and a tripod will venture up the neck of the beast and bring back some clearer shots.

Meh. I don’t really care one way or the other.
Could pretend to have a strong opinion if that would help though.

@22: It would help if you had a strong opinion. Especially if it is the opposite of shenanigans.

@22 Dave… for some reason that made me really laff. Please post a pretend strong opinion, just for Flooze.

First of all, the original post didn’t say “go climb the crane”… and even if it had, we are all grownups and not idiots who can (most of the times) make intelligent decisions. This person needs to get over it, I thought the pictures were kinda cool
