SaturDAY 1pm-? .. Woodlands is hosting a free pool party for cvillesocial members and their friends, providing burgers, hot dogs, fix-ins, etc. Starr Hill is bringing a couple kegs of free beer as well, though you may want to bring some of your own.

so come eat and drink on us, then go drink some more at escafe. sounds like a winning plan.

I’ll definitely be at the cVillain party doing the name tag thing. If you aren’t sure about going to a party with a bunch of blog people, trust me it’s not weird.

Just show up; you don’t have to be a commenter. Make sure you say hi to me and the other admins who will be there!

is there going to be like a big end of summer bash anywhere? or a ‘lets have a party before all the uva kids comeback and mess up everything’ party? i guess the escafe party is kind of like that, though…

@25 I would hope yes, but for those of us not affiliated with UVA, summer won’t end for weeks and weeks!

@25: amusingly, per your previous comments about Wild Wing, I’ve heard tell of a possible outdoorsy music festival there going into the evening. Don’t know if this was just idle chatter.

no clue, i dont work there anymore so i couldnt tell ya…but what i can tell you is that the main bartender/bar manager there (i wont name his name, but the one that kind of looks like a big gorilla) is HORRIBLE, easily the worst bartender in charlottesville. he’s rude, unpersonable, and just acts like you’re bothering him everytime you order a drink. anyone a fan of mccgrady’s?

  29. 01 Aug 2008 at 1:21 pmshenanigans said:

McGrady’s is fun, wouldn’t go there for late ngiht though.

  30. 01 Aug 2008 at 1:22 pmThisSideUp said:

@28 Does his name start with a J? There’s nothing better than sitting at an empty bar and having the bar tender not make eye contact so he doesn’t have to go through the pain of taking the cap off another bottle of Coors Light.

  31. 01 Aug 2008 at 1:28 pmuva non-dousche said:

@ 30, i knew you would know who i was talking about! and yes and yes he is just awful, AND they recently promoted him…how does a person like that make his way up the ‘corporate ladder’ if you will, at a restaurant, where people are ENCOURAGED to be nice and friendly? I love julia at mccgrady’s, she’s great. joel will also be greatly missed, from zydeco (if you all even know who i’m talking about…i know the corner bars aren’t the most popular on here)

@3, well if you don’t like tomatoes it’s probably not your thing. But last fall I went to the Monticello Apple Tasting and it was actually pretty cool. There are a lot of heirloom varieties that you might not taste elsewhere.

I just saw the Bird Lips at FaFive and they were great!

    Now what?

  37. 01 Aug 2008 at 8:43 pmStanley said:

    Now what?

Well, presumably, they continue to play shows in and around Charlottesville and the broader region, record a demo or two, and try to get noticed by a smaller independent record label that will propel them to success in the form of a 8+ review on Pitchfork. From there, all they can hope for is getting picked up by a major, not getting screwed, and maybe some coin from a product endorsement or two—their song in a movie or commercial.

Oh, you meant for you? No ideas.
