Re: the Craiglist ad…don’t think so, unless they’re using a little flourish with their choice of adjectives. Eastern’s bar is hardly “vintage,” and only about a third of it could even be considered old. Sean and Doug had the bar built out 5-6 years ago back when they owned the place. It’s just wood and paint.
I remember The Upstairs when it was also Eastern, and Janet Jospe was cooking there. It was some of the best food I’ve ever had in Cville over the years, and a beautiful space. Problem is getting people up those stairs.

They had to put one in to bring it up to code for disabled patrons, but I don’t believe it’s really meant for anyone to use. I could be wrong, or it could have changed use since it was put in…
I really meant it’s just hard to get people to wander in and then up a long staircase, especially on the end of the mall. Just not very walk-in friendly.

Yeah, that’s Boheme. The owner spent a lot of time making & is proud of that classic bar.

For what its worth, I have heard that escafé, the business not the building, is for sale. Further, that if it is not sold by spring it will close. That said, I have not heard that from a truly reliable source AND i was quite a few shots in when I heard it, so take it with a grain of salt. I suppose we all shall see.

@ 28 really? That surprises me. For one because they will usually post whatever you submit and secondly because they asked for volunteers in the past. The only thing you can’t do is review your own shows but they have posted my (very few) reviews of other people’s shows… At any rate I believe we have gotten off topic…Escafe closing would suck!
I doubt Boheme is that CL ad–they have several buyers fighting to buy it is what I’ve heard so why list it on the netz?
