Save The Algae, Save The World

Algae is quickly becoming the crowd favorite for Princess of the Alternative Energy ball.

University of Virginia researchers have a plan to greatly increase algae oil yields by feeding the algae extra carbon dioxide (the main greenhouse gas) and organic material like sewage, meaning the algae could simultaneously produce biofuel and clean up environmental problems.

While many companies around the world are hard at work on this technology, UVa is trying to prove the feasibility of mass production and its positive (hopefully) effects on the environment.

So THAT’S why we have so much algae.

    Good to know.

I don’t think he can solve the energy crisis but he can make you laugh.

Not Ali G. I think maybe they mean Al G. He can apparently save the universe!

So, environmentalists, which is it going to be? More CO2 or less CO2? Make up your freakin’ minds, already.

Which environmentalists are calling for more CO2?! That one’s new to me. If we can manage to sequester CO2, and produce fuel at the same time, well, that’d be prooty cool. But the feasibility of this kind of effort will likely be quickly and strongly hampered by cost and space.
