Restaurant News: Aqui Es Mexico and Escafe (aka “The Cafeteria”)

We have two small bits of restaurant news for you.

First off, Aqui Es Mexico has relocated right next door.  Having replaced the payday loans business which used to be in the same shopping center, the restaurant grew about three fold.  The menu and food stay the same, but be prepared for a much nicer dining experience and an even smaller chance you will have to wait for a table.  Uber ambiance points!

Secondly, a birdie told me that the Escafe dance floor has all the whizz bangs, gizmos and bloopies you could ever want.  I did not get a chance to do a closer inspection, but from the description, it was “totally discified,” complete with bright lights, strobes and the works.  Unfortunately, it’s still separated from the bar area.  Question:  will the average dancer cross the threshold, attracted by the bright lights and thumping base, or is it too much of an abyss?

I might be a little partial, but I prefer X Lounge for dancing. There’s a much bigger bar, where people can dance on, and a more well rounded mix of people, in my opinion. Escafe is great, though, and I love Micah, I think he’s one of the best bartenders in cville. However, since Escafe is all the way at the very beginning of the mall, not really near most of the other bars, I still would rather roll to X.

Attsa pretty propagandistic pic, though, no?

Do we not understand why there’s a gold star, and a sad, lonely pup?

@5: Yeesh. I missed that the first time around. “Loose lips sink ships” does ring a bit tone-deaf for restaurant gossip.

is the awesome but tiny salvadoran/equadoran place still there in the shopping center with Acqui Es Mexico?

    salvadoran/equadoran

That’s an odd pairing from a strictly geographic perspective.

@7, I know but I think the general atmosphere is better and more fun

i’m assuming it’s one or the other, but admit colossal geographic and cultural ig-no-rance.

the food was delicious if simple, and dirt-cheap. several times there, i was the only gringo in the place, and they had to bring someone from out-back to walk me through the menu in English–hard not to love that.

isn’t there an awful chain of Ruby-Tuesday sort of restaurants, Irish-Mexican in theme?

nobody’s ever thrown a credit card at me in Escafe.
then again, no guy has tried to grope me in X.

    Not if you’re a guy.

I feel uncomfortable when guys buy my drinks, I feel like they expect something in return most of the time. Usually, I buy my own drinks so I don’t have to worry about creepsters.
