Belmont Crime: La Taza 2x

I think this is from one of the owners of La Taza:

La Taza was broken into for the 2nd time in a week last night (Sunday night). Did anybody see ANYTHING sunday evening and into the night/morning? i know that you all are concerned with the neighborhood and this has been devastating for all in Belmont.

The prior break in.  Suggestion for La Taza:  Get better locks!

The Tuffy mobile was broken into on Sunday night as well, not too far away from The Taza. Nothing was taken, but the glove compartment got a good ‘going through’ in an attempt to find my iPod (hidden elsewhere). But, I also realized I left my car unlocked, so does that count as ‘breaking in’?

i’ve had two ipods stolen so far—one locked in a between-the seats compartment, and one in an empty closed ashtray. one broad daylight, the other smashed my window. bastards can listen to my sweater-pop collection until their eyes bug out.

when the popos came to ‘the scene’ they said just to not bother ever locking my car in charlottesville—there are apparently roving youth gangs who steal and sell ipods (untraceable and sold hand-to-hand, not to pawnshops), and the cops seemed to be saying that they’d smash windows whether they see an ipod or not, and that replacing an ipod is typically cheaper than replacing a car window.

nice roll-over/bend-over to crime attitude. they said you can also usually spot the potential thieves because they carry a macdonald’s bag with a big rock in it, and that’s what they use to smash car windows.

Regarding B&E in Cville. . .I concur with just leaving the car door unlocked. . .

About 8 weeks ago. . .I had one of my many blonde moments. . .forgot to turn off my GPS and left it suction-cupped to the windshield. . .the gleaming blue light must have been like some sort of honing beacon to the Belmont B&E Mafia. . .b/c when i came out the next morning. . .my driver window was shattered. . .GPS. . .gone. . .contents of center console. . .gone. . .

Seriously annoying. . .would have been much better off leaving the car unlocked with a sign taped to the window. . .”Super Spectacular GPS inside. Please help yourself!!!”

Wow. they must have thought it was an IPOD. can’t imagine what use a GPS would be to 15 year-olds who can’t drive anyhow.

was just thinking how annoyed they must have been to get my 30MB, 25 days’ worth, of sunshiney/upbeat sweater-pop, but how much more crime-deterrant it would have been if they’d swiped Shen’s IPOD full of excrutiating unlistenable French and Canadien Rock&Roll and House-music…. those shrill frogs wailing out distorted american copy-cat rhythms over accordians and breton penny-whistles…

is it racist or class-ist or age-ist to assume that street-gangs aren’t clubber/rave french and don’t like bubblegum-pop?

@11: Actually, it’s a baseless and pernicious indictment of the universally-agreed-upon likable character of bubblegum pop. But you’re just stirring the pot, methinks, so, you know, whatever.

do you think the break-in folks knew there might be alcohol there…in a bar…
or were they after the tasty anchovy-stuffed olives and fresh baked-goods
    or perhaps elements of decor.

inquiring minds want to know which brands/kinds of alcohol they thought worth taking.

You should just leave your car unlocked. If they want somethin’ in your car, they will just throw a rock through your window. Also, do not ever leave your iPod or other ’spensive toys in your car. In the downtown Ridge street to Belmont area right now, someone has been going around looking in cars specifically for these gadgets and they do not carry a rock but use whatever they can find nearby to break your window to get in and take it. This has happened in broad daylight. Then they resell it through Cville’s black market.

i leave my commuter beater unlocked all the time, usually with a window down. the most valuable thing in the durn car is the glass. i’m kind of with orchid, however, @13, in that i wish someone would steal it. it’s insured.

used to leave the doors unlocked on my ‘77 MGB cause the vinyl top cost more than whatever stereo it had in it at the time. hated to think someone would slash it to get in.
