Looks like the “Fire Groh” signs can go back up. Maybe with UVA’s horrid record this year, the athletic department is trying to send the coaching staff a message?
What really doesn’t make sense is this quote from Littlepage, UVA’s athletic director:
The policy prohibiting signs, banners and flags in all UVa athletics venues has become a distraction and has taken the focus away from supporting our student-athletes. Our football team needs our support right now and that should be our collective focus. With that in mind, I am repealing immediately the policy prohibiting signs, banners and flags in all athletics venues. I encourage all of our fans to be in attendance at Saturday night’s football game with Maryland. My hope is our fans will wear orange and be prepared to support the Cavaliers.
So, you still think the signs are a distraction and don’t support UVA, but you remove the ban?

this new non-policy is an outrage. mark my words, i’m going to find a way to protest this. nobody tells me where i’m not prohibited to carry a large, cleverly besloganed posterboard. i’m free to be prohibited from expressing my opinion with magic markers and creative television network-based acronyms wherever i damn well please. what is this, pakistan?
Now if we can just get Albert Groh and his son Mikey banned from The entire Commonwealth of Virginia. That would make things just peachy.
I believe what he was trying to say was that the ban on signs itself became the distraction, what with everyone trying to figure out ways to protest for each game (”this is not a sign” and the blank posters, etc), and nobody was rooting for the team.
The inherent ineptitude of the team itself apparently was not a deciding factor…
Let’s all take blank signs in protest.
After the Duke debacle the athletic department was scared that a sea of blue would send a terrible signal and backed down. The students are to be applauded for their planned protest.
Also there was a BOV meeting the other day, coincidence? I think not.
