We have just been forwarded the press release about the weekend shooting brought up in this post. Sadly, there was another homicide, this time at midnight on the Corner outside of Pacino’s deli.

On Saturday Morning, October 12, 2008, at approximately 0020 hours, Charlottesville Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1329 West Main Street in Charlottesville. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of 22 year old Phillip E. Adams, Jr., of Charlottesville, lying on the sidewalk adjacent to that location with an apparent gun shot wound to the chest area. Mr. Adams was transported to the UVA Medical Center where he died a short time later.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. Adams was attending a private party on the second floor of Pacino’s Deli, located at 1329 West Main Street, when he became involved in a confrontation with a subject later identified as Darryl Andre Johnson. During the course of the confrontation, Johnson is reported to have shot Adams and then subsequently fled the scene.
Johnson is described as black male, medium complexion, 20 years of age, 5-8, and 140 pounds.
Three other persons who were attending the party were also injured, but their injuries are not life threatening. Detectives are not releasing the names of those individuals at this point in their investigation.
Warrants have been obtained charging Johnson with Murder, Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Murder, Malicious Wounding, and Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Malicious Wounding.

1. We are not aware of what relationship, if any, there is between the victim and the shooter.
2. We don’t know what caused the confrontation; we just know that it ended in gun fire.
3. Don’t know how many shots were fired, or how many times the victim may have been hit.
4. The best we can tell, the three other persons who were injured were unintended victims. Only one of those three were struck by gunfire; one was struck on the head, the other had a scrape which may have been caused by a variety of things.
5. There were a very large number of people at this party, and the space was extremely small for such a large number.
6. Detectives are attempting to locate additional witnesses, and interview those that have been identified.
7. As of this moment, the suspect is still at large.

Crazy. I drove by the Corner around 11:30 last night and thought it was curious how all the bars were pretty much empty, but there were a lot of thugs hanging outside Pacino’s.

Five murders in the city this year four of which have been solved and at least they have this clown in custody. Imagine waking up in the morning taking a shower drinking some coffee and thinking you should take a gun to the corner in case you have to shoot four people and murder one of them. I hope he dies in prison…

BackupPlanet, apologies for my absence all weekend. The loss of first Shenanigans then Pink Panther has left me listless and in perpetual gloom. I wander the streets at night with a dejected and despairing look on my handsome face, followed by HM’s little rain-cloud above my furrowed brow, staring at me impeccably-shod feets.
This weekend it became too much, and i went into a quasi-monastic retreat, studying arcane mystic texts. i awoke one night in a swanky neighborhood off high street (north downtown) at about three a.m. and there was this crazed old coot in his night-shirt waving what was clearly a WWII service-automatic around, evidently taking pot-shots at an opossum or raccoon. tickled me pink.
Only five murders? Seems like more than that. Even still, that is 12.5 murders per 100,000 citizens, which is well above the national average.

Throwing it into reverse, backed down Elliewood and took scenic route through parking lots. After making it around the block to the Virginian from the other direction, both parties were gone. Needless to say, started evening at bar with a double shot.

Teens generally ok. Especially oldest teen, who visited Miller School today for their open house. He’s a junior, had plenty troubles all his life. Spouse and I conflicted about what to do for the last ten years… As a result of visit, is over-the-top excited about Miller. We’re hoping it’s a life changing moment. Are in process of application. Meanwhile, after probably best day of his life, he and his girlfriend broke up over the phone tonight. He was shattered.

I’ve had a dozen friends killed in combat, variously, and known a dozen charlottesville suicides (two of them by gunshot).
