12th Street Tap House Coming to Northern Exposure Space?

If anyone has seen the former Northern Exposure building that had a brief occupancy by now the deceased Spry’s Barbecue, you would know that something’s going down.  The building looks like crap right now, having been stripped of almost every exterior sign, awning, etc..  Some of us thought it was time for demolition, but one of our birdies brings a new rumor to the table.  Thanks, Echo:

12th Street Tap [Ale?] House. Supposedly in the old Northern Exposure building. I want details. Internet, go.

Anyone have the deets?

You know you have a drinking problem when the bartender knows your name…

…and you’ve never been to that bar before.

As noted in the C-ville this week, The 12th Street Taphouse is now open. The beer prices are unbelievable, especially considering that they are 20 oz pints. I’ve also had dinner and lunch there and both were wonderful. This is not surprising considering the talent in the kitchen. Here’s a tip – there are some free parking spaces for restaurant patrons on the 1st floor of the parking garage located behind the restaurant. Just be sure to park in the spaces specifically marked for Kane Furniture/restaurant.

The beer and food are pretty good. However the female bartender is INCREDIBLY RUDE. I have been there 3 times in the last month always being served by her and she makes it an unpleasant experience. There are plenty of places that serve good beer at nice bars but hey, if you like being mistreated by a raven haired barista by all means visit the taphouse. I’m done going there. And least you take pity on her that maybe she was super busy, all three times I was there, weeknight, maybe 3 people at the bar.

@8,10 You all should let Sean know how you feel about the bartender. There is no excuse for someone being rude to the patrons.

Went last night and had horrible service. The staff was so rude, it was unbelievable. It’s sad because the food is pretty good. They’re not going to last if that continues. I know I won’t be back.

@ 14 That’s like the sixth “bad service” comment in the two threads about this, and I have heard similar word of mouth. Brutal.

We are talking about 12th Street, right?

I know one of the waitronesses there is not a big smiler, and some people just do not understand that in a woman. Sort of a southern thing. Was it bad service, or was it just an attitude thing? More than one person?

My time there was full of friendly beer talk with the bartender and sidelong glances at the waitrons, who seemed fine. I did not see anybody breaking down into wails and gnashes of frustration. Bunch of loud happy tables. Who knows.

I went with a group of about ten people and stood in the little side room off of the bar and had beer and a couple of plates of food to share. One of the items was a Caesar salad, which consisted of half a head of iceberg lettuce and two croutons, with a measly drizzle of cheap dressing. Really guys, $10? Seriously? That’s not even the right kind of lettuce. We ended up leaving after about 45 minutes because it was too difficult to get a drink. The female bartender did her best to ignore us, and when we did get her attention she was surly and rude. After nearly an hour we had only managed to get two beers apiece. The high point, though, was when she came over as we were leaving to complain that we hadn’t tipped her enough. The 10% we gave her was really just to be polite.

Summary: Mediocre food & incompetent, bitchy bartender.

Um, Floozy said she sucks too. I’m gonna believe these comments cuz that makes me no longer the meanest bartender in town. Yay!

I thought the idea was to encourage commenting, not question the integrity of those that do. Except me of course, because I don’t give a shit.

@20: I know! Incredible, yet sadly true.

@21: We were there in early March, but I just saw this thread in Cvillain a few days ago. Also, my comments were very specific.

@Champe: That you are such a stalwart champion of the restaurant makes me suspicious of your connection to the place. Since you obviously know him, why don’t YOU send “Sean” (the owner?) the link to this page? Then he can see for himself.
