Metallica to Play at John Paul Jones Arena on October 17th

Just got this press release…

Legendary rockers Metallica bring their World Magnetic Tour to John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The band has been touring to sold-out crowds across the U.S. and the World since the release of last year’s Death Magnetic album.

Tickets for Metallica go on sale Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m., one week after the group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Tickets are priced at $71.50* and $51.50*, with a portion of the proceeds of each ticket going to charity. Tickets can be purchased at the John Paul Jones Arena box office, www.johnpauljonesarena.com or charge by phone at 888-575-8497. This tour features a stage “in the round” with tickets on the floor being general admission. The remainder of the house will be reserved seating.

With 50 million albums sold and numerous projects in the works, Metallica is on a career high. Earlier this year they received their eighth Grammy Award (for Best Metal Performance for Death Magnetic’s “My Apocolyse”). This month will see the release of the Metallica Guitar Hero game as well as the release of The Complete Metallica, a discography box set, featuring 163 tracks.

Yay! A band that came down heavily on the wrong side of the file sharing debate as their music became increasingly more mediocre. Makes me want to bootleg some of their t-shirts in the parking lot just to piss them off. Poor widdle Lars.

    Pass.

While not exactly the Metallica of old, they’re still better than most of the bands that come through this town. I’ll be there.

I saw Metallica live a few years ago in DC, and they kicked some serious ass even before considering they’re old dudes. We’ll see about that ticket price though…

But Metallica’s been around since 1981…..long before most of you little pricks were even born, and you think you have the right to criticize them? Sorry that they’re no Nickelback or any of that other bullshit out now that all sounds the same!! Metallica’s been around for almost 30 years now and with this new CD, they still kick EVERYONE’S ass!!!!! You kids need to wake up and know a real band when you hear one!!!

How dare we make fun of a band who in 2009 won a Grammy for Best Recording Package or in 2007 was named #17 on Blender magazine’s list of “biggest wusses in rock”.

The band has sold more than 90 million records worldwide, including 57 million in the United States, which makes Metallica the most commercially successful thrash metal band.

Am not gong to see them because I don’t care for their music not because the neo nazis I went to school with thought they were bad ass and threatened to “end me” if I did not agree. Go see them or not- it another in the series of dinosaurs of rock that keep clog up the arenas for newer bands that are trying to make it.

I must voice my dissent regarding these “newer bands”. I challenge that all the great music has already been made and any descendents of these “dinosaurs of rock” are merely pasticheurs, interminable wannabes and, dare I say, indistinguishable from each other. (Ooh, la, she dared.)

Before I get another “pull yourself out of the currents of mainstream and jump into the unknown depths of obscure/unlabled/unsigned music”, I know there are a few, a few, current bands hiding out somewhere ‘neath the depths and layers of pop-obsessed society waiting for a big break yet playing the bleak martyred artist who desires no fame for their art that are somewhat decent, different, exciting.

Still, the best music has been made and these mesozoician musical gods (not necessarily Metallica) are to thank for the inspiration they gave to Crappy McBlackspikedhair and the Guyliner Scrotesquad.
