Ash Lawn-Highland has been the home of the Ash Lawn Opera for the past thirty one years. During that time Ash Lawn Opera has grown from a community chamber organization to a nationally known opera company. With that professional success, comes larger audiences and the need for a better performance venue. The Board of Directors proudly announces that this summer’s season, featuring Camelot and The Marriage of Figaro, will be presented at the historic Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall. This fine theater includes space for a larger orchestra which will enhance the musical experience while creative lighting, sets and staging will improve the dramatic performances. For the first time the company will be able to produce Sunday Matinees.
Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot opens the season. The fantastic tale of King Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot amid romantic songs and daring sword fights develops in an enchanted kingdom. Camelot will be performed on these dates: July 3rd, 11th, 18th, August 8th at 8 pm and July 5th, 12th, August 9th at 2 pm.
One of Mozart’s funniest operas, The Marriage of Figaro recounts a single day in the palace of Count Almaviva in Spain. Servants Figaro and Susanna are deeply in love and plan a simple wedding; however, other events unfold before the wedding commences. The Marriage of Figaro will be performed on July 17th, August 1st and 7th at 8 pm July 26th at 2 pm.
A special performance of Music at Twilight’s Broadway Bound will be on July 10th at the Paramount.

More info at readthehook.com, such as the Jefferson Theater deal that wasn’t. Are all the operas still in English? Not that there’s anything wring with that. But the website don’t say.
i always thought operettas in english; operas in italian. false?
operettas are in Dull and conclude eventually, operas are in Boring and continue world without end.
that’s crap. we were really excited about going up there this summer.
In the Hook article is the woman they quote Kyle’s mom?
Yes. (This isn’t breaking The Code, right, since everyone knows who Kyle is?)
This site’s crookeder than an eighteen-foot intestinal worm!
I absolutely love the Ash-Lawn Opera. Organizations like this are a huge part of the reason we made #4 on that best places to live list. While I’ll miss the unique experience of opera at dusk and then under the stars, I totally understand the need for them to move to a bigger space, whether or not that was spurred in part by Ash-Lawn’s wedding business. They were really growing – shows got sold out faster and faster, and the chairs got packed tighter and tighter and could be really uncomfortable after hour 2. I wish them the best of luck in the new venue and I’m glad they’re still doing a couple dates at Ash-lawn.
it was always fun to go up there for the shows; many happy evenings listening to the peacocks and preferring them to the Mozart (they did do other real operas and shows). i loved the peacocks and the champagne entre’actes, walking over to say hullo to the cows in the adjacent field.
