On October 22nd Cassis hosted our 4th Club Villain event, and Sean Lawford and his staff graciously offered a wide range of food and drink options to sample. One commenter below will be going back to Cassis on us.

Im in. Ians’s randomizer always rolls 1’s.
Once upon a time it rolled you. Actually, that was a random girl from the crowd asked to draw cards, and yours just about JUMPED into her hand.
Speaking of which, did you ever go to Ten? How did your veggies treat you?
hey ian, make someone review camino, please.
I REALLY try not to influence my writers in any way as far as restaurants go. If I were to, I’m afraid the credibility of the review could be called into question. Sean and I have been talking weekly about when we will be in as a group to hang out, and I’m only waiting on their ABC license.
As far as music reviews go, I sometimes ask my writers to attend certain shows, as the bands press people have asked cVillain for coverage.
Corporate toady.
I know, I only live to breathe the commercial manifesto.
as soon as they can booze me up good, i’ll review camino
Every inch the professional.
I haven’t been to Cassis since they switched to small plates. It used to be my favorite place in Cville. There’s a lot of French Bistro competition in this town.
you don’t NEED to get small plates. steak is still a meal.
the fact that I haven’t been back to Cassis since they swtiched to small plates is not the reason why I haven’t been back, although I appreciate the tip.
oh, it was the reason for me. but having gone the once and really enjoyed my steak frites & calamari i don’t need to return for a long time. bc PP is better. and has a much better outside. and the 4-tops are bigger. and it’s a lovely date spot. and service at cassis if you don’t have micah is kind of weak.
Petit Pois is better.
I’ve Petit Poied twice since having been to Cassis
They have a new Prix Fixe menu! 3 courses for $20. That is amazing.
for real?! what’s on it?
ermm…butternut squash soup and some seafood thing and something else for apps, duck confit, goat cheese ravioli, and something else. shit, you might as well ask brian, i forget. but it’s an awesome deal.
thanks. not that it matters, i’ll eat anything there
What is it that makes it better? I’ve been to Cassis & Fleurie numerous times, and Petit Pois only once. All were excellent, but I’d have a hard time judging Cassis/Petit.
I like Cassis over Petit Pois for originality. PP is rather predictable. I don’t like the itty bitty tables at PP, but I guess you’ve got to make due with the space you’ve got. Steak frite is better at PP. I think PP lacks in seasoning (both salt and herbs, etc.). Cassis is a better date spot. PP is more see-and-be-seen.
Cassis lost me when I heard about it being a nightlife spot complete with table dancing. I’m not sure that I s the case anymore.
I think they’re just different.
Fleurie is in a different league. I think l’etoile is better than Fleurie.
disagree about l’etoile > fleurie even though my steak was cooked beautifully last 2 times i went to l’etoile & overcooked last time i went to fleurie, & i don’t understand why the chick at fleurie wouldn’t make my reservation for the time i wanted when there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant. but generally the food is exquisite at fleurie. and service is better. and desserts. and the sweetbreads. and wine.
eh. agree to disagree.
can’t disagree that fleurie’s food is more photogenic, at least, can you?
as far as plating and food presentation goes, i’d say it’s even steven. It’s French food, of course it’s sexy.
fleurie looks better in photos though.
at any rate, palladio >>>>>>>>everything else.
i agree with you on palladio!
their nov-dec menu started yesterday. can’t wait to try it! <3 <3 <3
they go on vacation in January, so get your fill now.
WHAT? You are insane. Fleurie is the best restaurant in town
i had a better experience at l’etoile. I’d go back there before going back to Fleurie, but I would go back.. IMO.
Cassis has definitely moved away from the OXO late night table-dancing crowd. A friend of mine tried Cassis around a year ago (I’m guessing , not sure of the timeline) and was disinterested in the thumping stereo and crowd. He was glad to return for this event, and be able to enjoy the evening.
Not to say that I personally don’t condone late night thumping stereos and table dancing.
Ian, randomize now. My odds look good.
Please
I’ll be performing the drawing tomorrow around noon. Feel free to postcheat away. Keep improving those odds.
if Doc wins I’ll be pissed
I blame RWO for my loss.
really? i’d blame orchid.
actually lets blame Ian!
I like free food. I’m in.
I went to Cassis once, it was beautiful. Is this an all inclusive trip?
$50 gift certificate, good for whatever you wish.
If I win, I’ll probably end up not going anyway.
why
Doc doesn’t believe in food. Thinks it’s all a conspiracy.
He’s an agoraphobic extroverted claustrophobic anorexic. It’s so fucked up it’s just not funny.
Ian needs sensitivity training. And door locking training.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sensitivity Training is bullshit! (Just started watching Penn & Teller’s show).
Door lock training? I’m surprised I could even OPEN the door at that point of the evening.
/raptor
that’s a fabulous show. i esp liked the episode on cursing.
Randomizing 1-37 has generated 36, a win for Orchid. Sorry RWO…
worst EVER
Ever, ever.
wOOt!
The hideously grotesque hump and my deformed lower face lead people to just stare in horror whenever I go out to eat because I am often stooped over the table with drippings from my meal hanging from where my lips should be. So, it’s in an effort to stop the laughing.
I got there at 10:15 and was denied food even though I was in the two hour window. End of story.
Sounds like pitchfork time!
Sean actually held the kitchen open for us, as it typically closes around 9PM. They also held the doors open for us to drink later. I tried to tell you, buy you wanted to get your hair did.
Seriously, don’t hold the club at places that close early.
