Charlottesville & Albemarle have received top honors in the ‘Go Green Challenge’, a competition hosted by the Virginia Municipal League, designed to recognize areas which implement green practices.
Local governments earned ‘green points’ by instituting various policies and actions, covering everything from green buildings, energy efficiency, to land use innovation.
Charlottesville topped this list in its population category last year, and was forced to ‘give others a chance’ this go around.
Out of the possible 200 points, Albemarle, Arlington, Loudoun, Roanoke, Alexandria, Charlottesville, & Norfolk accumulated at least 175 for the Platinum Ballers Group. Leaving Chesapeake, Williamsburg, Blacksburg, Dayton, Leesburg, Purcellville, & York County with Gold; Lynchburg, Fredericksburg, V.B., Winchester, Radford, Vienna, & Henrico County with Silver; Fairfax, Falls Church, Harrisonburg, Hopewell, Newport News, Richmond, Staunton, Waynesboro, Front Royal, Halifax, & Roanoke County barely making the grade with merely a ‘Green Certification’ rating. Did those fools let you out on parole again?
I’m not sure what you mean by Albemarle being brought along by Charlottesville. They weren’t even in the same population category!
Artistic liberty. Charlottesville returned for the second year as a winner, while Albemarle either didn’t participate, or failed to place last year.
I think Albemarle tied with Arlington for 1st place this year in the largest population category. We should recognize both Cville and Albemarle for their sustainability efforts… the title is a bit unfortunate.
