Update from Blue Mountain Brewery

I can’t get over the Blue Mountain Brewery. The Irish stout is ready, and they’ve created a Half-Nelson that I like even more than the Full Nelson, which I love.

I was lucky enough to go when they were out of my standby parsnip soup (white truffle oil drizzle, mind you). I was offered a red bean soup and a ham soup, and I chose the latter. With the saltiness of the ham and spice from fresh cracked black pepper (and a couple of almost whole peppercorns!), the flavor was alarmingly good. Potato was well blended in for a starchy but creamy texture. And that bread– it’s always lightly grilled, and in that time, it picks up the aromas of the pizzas likely being cooked next to it.

It is a 20 minute drive from downtown Charlottesville. I’ve said it once but I’ll say it again! Take 64 west to exit 107, turn left on 250 west, then left on 151 south. It’s about a mile down 151 on your left. Closed Monday and Tuesday, and beers and wines are cheaper on Wednesday. Check it out Thursday for a very discount sandwich special, and yes, it will be open on St. Paddy’s.

Gossip!

Get it? It’s juicy.

New to the scene
Cassis’ late night scene happened. I had spies, and I know it was well received as an alternative to the long line behind the velvet rope across the street. I walked by on Saturday and saw every bar seat filled– and yes, even a Connect Four set. That bar is beautiful, have we said that yet? It’s true, a “downtown oy” and “cvillain” martini are in print on the drink menu. It is really exciting to see support from local restaurants. (Boheme’s lilith, delicious!) I’m trying not to let this go straight to my head, just straight to my lips…

Temptations in concert!

America’s favorite Motown ensemble performed at the Paramount Theatre last night to a full house. Singing and clapping to popular hits like “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” the audience was on its feet as often as not for the duration of the hour and a half show.

It’s my favorite! I do not receive these colorful updates nearly enough. Here’s an excerpt from an e-mail I received just last week:

Gossip isn’t fair

But we write about it anyway!

I want to get your opinions about what you think is fair game on cVillain.com– all of the following are “issues” we’ve done a conga line around for months.

  • Would you post information about a business from a reliable source (that you yourself can not verify) that would kill its reputation beyond repair?
  • What topics are off-limits for jokes?
  • When is it okay to use someone’s name?
  • How many times should a business be patroned before it can be written up in a review? What qualifies someone as an authority to write it?

Don’t forget about the big feet part

The Florida Marlins are recruiting men for its new cheer squad, the “Manatees.” [NBC4] For the auditions, applicants were recommended to have “big bellies with big jiggles and big feet with the best dance moves.”

I love this. None of that “big-boned” or “curvalicious” BS. Big bellies. Yeah. And big feet, too, so they’ll have big, jiggly… »Read More

    Hacker!

University of Virginia graduate student Karsten Nohl hacked into the “smart card,” making him officially the new Smartest Person in Charlottesville, replacing previous title holder The Rock. (Do you have an international monopoly on the word “rock”? Didn’t think so. Don’t argue.)

Working with two German partners and cheap equipment, Nohl now has the secret code to, like, everything. Now that the story has been broken, Nohl says he will most miss his fake Chipotle gift card to get free burritos and access to full Facebook profiles of non-friends. Just kidding. That’s just what I would do if I were a hacker and could get anythig I want. Then definitely world peace.

    The DP has the story.

    Watch out, Larry Sabato!

Someone out there officially doesn’t want to be you!

I mean, I don’t want to be you, either, but it’s unofficial. I wouldn’t say it to your face, you know? Okay. I am open to the possibility that being you isn’t so bad. You make gazillions of dollars for having opinions. And you have a huge porn stache, and you actually pull it off.

It’s just that you work in politics. Good luck with that.

I have no idea who this “Ben” is who isn’t you, if that is his real name, but he/she/it ranked Waldo Jaquith’s blog at the gold/platinum level among Virginia blogs. Ben, what about cVillain? Are we just a piece of tin foil to you?
