Newsplex.com reported on Christian bike riders stopping by Charlottesville on Monday. From Newsplex.com:
“75 riders, ages 13 to 24, are biking over the Appalachian Mountains. Their journey will take them 1,600 miles and last about three weeks.”
We took these pictures yesterday, so we aren’t sure if this is the same or a different biking group. They were right outside of Spicy Bear HQ. What is interesting is that they were riding in the wrong direction on South Street. We have all laughed and then cried out in fear when we see people doing this in one car….how about 100 bikers? Is faith the new airbag? This was definitely the most blatant one-way street mistake we have seen on South Street in well, forever. They also had support vans following them.
I wish all the riders luck on their journey!

Not enough glam?

As you know we’re opening a gym pretty soon called “CrossFit Charlottesville.” I won’t tell you too much about it just yet other than it’s going to be awesome. We’re struggling with a t-shirt slogan and wanted your input. CrossFit works better than any other fitness program because we do functional movements, constantly vary our movements and do them at high intensity (more on all this later).
As for the slogan, we just want it to be funny and doesn’t have to be specific to CrossFit.
Here’s what we like so far:
If we pick your slogan, you get a free t-shirt.
This is totally not relevant local news, but ABC16 begs to differ. They went out and interviewed people in town to find out their reaction to Jon and Kate Gosselin’s recent divorce announcement. Bla bla bla. Here is the skinny…they are filing for divorce while continue to produce/air new episodes which supposedly give them $75k per episode. With 8 kids to feed and lawyers about to tear out each others throats now is about bringing in as much cash as possible, even if it means airing your dirty laundry. While taking a moral high ground might make you feel all warm and gushy inside, unfortunately it doesn’t pay the bills. On the flip side maybe we will all know what a divorce really is like…cause this is not any of that made for reality TV crap…oh wait

Not to come as a surprise, the Virginia Republican Party filed a freedom of information act for the travel records of Gov. Kaine’s activities as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee. What do you think the VPR might find? Perhaps corporations and other private businesses (gasp) are paying for his travel? Isn’t that what lobbying and donations are all about? Gov. Kaine is kind of digging his own mini ditch by denying the information request at first on the grounds of a security breach (not a really good answer). The Roanoke Times reports:
Nevertheless, the governor has a duty to Virginians beyond just the letter of FOIA. The only way the public can verify that his moonlighting has not interfered with his gubernatorial responsibilities is if it knows where and when he traveled and on whose dime. If big Democratic donors who have business before state agencies have provided free flights, people ought to know.
So Gov. Kaine could either be:
1)flying on someone’s personal dime
2)working on super secret DNC stuff
3)trying to give off the appearance that something weird is going on so that the VRP wastes time on this (I like this one)
4)doing nothing wrong

C-VILLE just unleashed the “25 essential Charlottesville experiences for real locals”. #6 is “Post on cvillenews.com”. Here is why, supposedly:
Waldo Jaquith’s Cvillenews website has always been on the cutting edge. Jaquith launched it in 2001, and since then he has never lowered the bar for highbrow Charlottesville information. A hyperlocal news site before hyperlocal was a buzz word in the news industry, Jaquith covers real topics of real concern to locals. When commenters finally graduate from spurting BS on shifty blogs, Cvillenews is where they go to grow up.
That’s funny considering that C-VILLE staff visit our site, and comment on it. Yes, that’s right, even though you are all educated, one day you will see the light and realize how inane our conversations are and unpopular this site is and then move on to greener, more intellectually stimulating pastures where you can have real deep and meaningful conversations with your peers.
For all you undergraduate bullshit spurters on cVillain and the other blogs, just know that you will eventually grow out of this phase and that the C-VILLE didn’t really mean to insult you. Oh wait, yes they did. BS comments to follow.

Gawker slammed local UVa Political Science Professor Larry Sabato for predicting positive election results for politicians that sent money towards his organization the Crystal Ball, through the use of public earmarks.
But last year Sabato, the expert prognosicator who actually works in Goode’s district, called that particular race wrongly—he said Goode was going to win, but challenger Thomas Perriello defeated him. Not that the $1.4 million-a-year bonus that Goode was sending Sabato’s way would influence his punditry.
Wikipedia has a section on his page about this “earmark controversy”:
In June 2009, it was revealed that Sabato’s Center for Politics had been the recipient of over seven million dollars in earmark money from Congressman Virgil Goode, whom Sabato predicted would win re-election in 2008, despite declining poll numbers; Goode ultimately lost the race by a small margin. Some observers have suggested that Sabato should have revealed his financial connection to Congressman Goode or recused himself for making predictions about the race.
There is also a website called Not Larry Sabato that chronicles all of these interesting and unethical happenings. Is this the first we have heard of this? A search on Google News does not reveal anyone from the local media circus covering this.
