Back in early 2008, we discovered that well over half of you text while driving (even though only about 20% of you do it regularly). Today, thanks to a birdie, we found out that reading or sending texts will be illegal while driving. We have no idea how they will enforce the reading part of that or why you are allowed to read a map, but oh well.
Looks like the “Fire Groh” signs can go back up. Maybe with UVA’s horrid record this year, the athletic department is trying to send the coaching staff a message?
What really doesn’t make sense is this quote from Littlepage, UVA’s athletic director:
The policy prohibiting signs, banners and flags in all UVa athletics venues has become a distraction and has taken the focus away from supporting our student-athletes. Our football team needs our support right now and that should be our collective focus. With that in mind, I am repealing immediately the policy prohibiting signs, banners and flags in all athletics venues. I encourage all of our fans to be in attendance at Saturday night’s football game with Maryland. My hope is our fans will wear orange and be prepared to support the Cavaliers.
So, you still think the signs are a distraction and don’t support UVA, but you remove the ban?
First it was the banning of coats and ties (not really, but Sea of Orange killed coats, ties and sundresses), then the killing of the pep band, and now it’s the banning of signs from UVa sports games. In an email sent to UVa students, the move is “intended to support and promote sportsmanship and positive game day environment for all fans in attendance at athletic events.”
I guess I can see the reason for this, but at the same time, isn’t there a lot of verbal unsportsmanlike like conduct that happens at athletic events? I guess, it’s more for the appearance of a proper sports game, but, if it were proper, wouldn’t we all be wearing coats, ties and sundresses anyway?
Enough is enough. Both of my breakfast/brunch outings this past week were ruined by Virginia’s malignant pastime; smoking. I know I know, we are ‘down south’. Who cares. Its 2008 not 1955, and by now everyone knows how bad cigarette smoke is. If we can smoke whenever we please we should also be able to shoot people in the gut, for fun. While both might result in death, for some reason when someone waves a gun in the air we all run for the hills, yet when they smoke, we just mutter under our breath. It’s really never ok to smoke amongst people who haven’t given you the permission to do so. »Read More
