Weekend Preview: Get Your Easter Eggs!

easter charlottesville

It’s Easter Weekend and that means exciting things like brunch, easter egg hunts, church and family time come into play.

Got hot chicks in roller skates?  Charlottesville Derby Dames will have a Spring Break and Bruise Benefit Concert @ Outback Lodge.  Doors open at 8PM. Tickets are $10.  Word is they are also looking for practice space, refs and more skaters.

Don’t forget your Easter brunch.   If you aren’t doing the at-home thing, our readers chose Boar’s Head as the best brunch spot in Charlottesville.  Our favorite is still Blue Moon, but honestly, it’s probably best to stay at home and avoid the crowds. Poached eggs aren’t that hard to make.

Easter egg hunt? Join Charlottesville Parks and Rec for the Easter Eggtravaganza on Saturday, April 11 from 10 AM – 11:15 AM at Charlottesville High School. The event will feature candy, prizes, balloons, moon bounces, face painting and refreshments. Plus a special visit from the Easter Bunny! The Easter egg hunt will begin at 11 am. The event is rain or shine! For more information, please call (434) 970-3260.

What’d we miss?

Blue Moon: Best Brunch in Charlottesville

Bring Beer Run to YOU!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/atillavibes/386631865/It seems our little local beer shop is expanding. Hopefully this means it is doing well. Beer Run brought food and tastings into the mix since their opening. Although we have yet to review Beer Run’s food, we cannot say we have had a bad beer there. We are also fans of the outdoor seating, which comes in handy on a nice summer evening.

Want more?

Beer Run has expanded their menu and is now taking on BRUNCH. We will be sure to get back to you with a review on the regular menu items and brunch. If you have tried don’t forget to speak up! Check out a sample brunch menu below.

Better than brunch! Beer Run is now DELIVERING beer, wine, and food. Yes, alcohol delivery. It almost feels like Christmas. They do have a $25.00 minimum for delivery and you are required to set up an account with them.  How on earth are they allowed to do this? No idea.

Check out Beer Run’s web site and Sample Brunch Menu:

ZoCaLo Brunch Review

Zo Ca Lo Bar

Charlottesville represents a never ending brunch epic. From the crowned winner, Blue Moon Diner, to our battle between Blue Moon and Blue Grass, to our (now) slightly outdated weekend brunch guide, you will never be short options (or a line) to eat brunch on Sunday mornings.

Enter Zo Ca Lo, the place we once compared to an Opium den. As a hip little newster to town, Zo Ca Lo must have felt left out. Ok, so maybe I’m showing my age as Zo Ca Lo has been around for 5 (?) years now. Zo Ca Lo has a reputation around town; a reputation for doing some excellent Tuna tartar, gracing us with amazing cheese balls and some very solid entrées. The restaurant has not garnered a reputation for change, but we are happy to see it finally changing its M.O. after five years.

Just a few weeks ago now, Zo Ca Lo decided to open on Sundays and flex its brunch muscles to an eager Charlottesville. We published the menu if you need to refer to it during this review. Now, what did we think?

The Breakfast Battle: Bluegrass Grill & Bakery vs. Blue Moon

http://www.flickr.com/photos/75554278@N00/448059654/The Breakfast Battle: Bluegrass Grill vs. Blue Moon

I am sure after at least 10 comments on Blue Moon everyone is fully aware of my love affair with the place. It is not only a Sunday morning tradition, but the highlight of my week (that and South Street on Tuesdays—which Thor beat me to discussing). I make it a point about once a month to try a new breakfast place (Sunday or otherwise). My most recent new place was Bluegrass Grill & Bakery. I went on a weekday to avoid the mass line that seems to enviably appear every Saturday and Sunday morning.

Behold the Zo Ca Lo Brunch Menu…

Why the Blue Moon Diner Serves the Best Breakfast & Brunch Food in Charlottesville

I’ve been charioting around all of Charlottesville for the last few months trying to figure out, what, in fact is the Best Breakfast Place in Charlottesville. We’ve done a brunch roundup before, but since I’m Thor, I’m an absolutist.I needed an answer for myself. More importantly, I needed an absolute answer so cVillain readers could tell me I’m wrong (or right). So, here it goes…

We’ve had our issues with the C-Ville’s Best Of and Charlottesville-dining.com. First of all, C-Ville’s Best of List claims that Bluegrass Grill & Bakery takes the top spot. Secondly, Charlottesville Dining has Shenandoah Coffee and Spudnuts as the Top Breakfast Joints (eliminating those places with 1 vote). I wholeheartedly disagree with these rankings. Here’s why…
