To go along with our love for any locally made movie (shorts included), especially one shot @ Escafe & The Upstairs, we wanted to share the trailer for a new film from Paul Whitehead. It tells the sad tale of two restaurants at war, and the casualties and hilarity which ensues. The all-kitchen stars include Liz Porter, Jason Burke, Shakti Sackett, Zhenya Yanovich, Dave Dupont, Jamie Dyer, Nate Tekan, Paul Whitehead, Jonny Timmerman, Demond Harris and Carlos Garr.
There will be two showings associated with the Film Festival, one @ 11:45AM - Vinegar Hill Saturday, and a secondary showing @ 8:00PM – Random Row Books, along with a special screening of another Charlottesville classic, Zeke Hoffmeyer. Both are $Free.
One of cVillain’s favorite restaurants on the mall will be celebrating it’s one year anniversary under new management this evening, with music videos, a toast at midnight, & that special form of exotic dance known as ‘table’ being performed until 2AM.
Come down and show your support for a fun and varied atmosphere, unlike any other.
cVillain as we know it may soon fade into a distant memory, but its heart and soul will live on!
Join your fellow ‘villains in celebrating the past three years of live, local, and uncensored news, gossip, and reviews brought to you through the hard work of all the Spicy Bears, especially Kyle and Francesco.
The festivities will begin at 8pm at Escafe this Monday, July 13. All villains, lurkers, and yes, even stalkers are welcome.
Optional attire: dress as your favorite villain!
We hope to see you there! Escafe is located on the Downtown Mall at 227 W. Main Street. If you have any questions, please contact me.
We have two small bits of restaurant news for you.
First off, Aqui Es Mexico has relocated right next door. Having replaced the payday loans business which used to be in the same shopping center, the restaurant grew about three fold. The menu and food stay the same, but be prepared for a much nicer dining experience and an even smaller chance you will have to wait for a table. Uber ambiance points!
Secondly, a birdie told me that the Escafe dance floor has all the whizz bangs, gizmos and bloopies you could ever want. I did not get a chance to do a closer inspection, but from the description, it was “totally discified,” complete with bright lights, strobes and the works. Unfortunately, it’s still separated from the bar area. Question: will the average dancer cross the threshold, attracted by the bright lights and thumping base, or is it too much of an abyss?
In the never ending churn of restaurant and food rumors in Charlottesville, we’ve got a particularly chatty birdie who has sent in enough gossip to fill a 5 days of post. We’ll add a tidbit or two each day this week. Here are your Escafe and Bistro rumor..
Escafe has sold to “Dancing Queen.” He has some nice ideas that we have been trying to implement for years… which will def make escafe a strictly bar scene… bring the food back?
Clyde Clive who was the original Chef of Boheme has moved to Micheals Bistro
Thanks to everyone who made it out. Special thanks to Tuesday for planning everything! Extra special thanks to everyone at Escafe and big kudos for giving everyone a $10 dollar gift certificate who showed up!
I have all the pictures after the break, but Escafe wanted to ask you guys “what does it take to turn their place into a dancing joint?!”
Don’t forget tonight is our Cvillain bash at Escafe! Join us from 8:00 pm until they kick our butts out.
Escafe will be giving all villains special treatment – so come see us and grab your official name tag! Our parties are always a kick and you can make this one even better than the last. Bring your friends and your dancing shoes.
Cvillain and Escafe have put together a shindig just for you! The party starts at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at ESCAFE.
We will greet you at the door with our normal name tag banter then send you back to a special villain only area. We have half the place just to ourselves and the other half to play with non-villains as well.
There will be NO COVER and NO COST. Specials will be provided to anyone wearing our special name tags. Our bartender of choice, Mikka is mixing up a special concoction just for you! More details about specials, coupons and drinks will be released later.
To add to the “specialness” a $50.00 Escafe gift certificate will be given away as the door prize. RSVP in the comments and you will be entered for a chance to win the gift certificate.
Clear your calendars and dust off your dancing shoes…I hear table dancing runs rampant at this place.
OXO
My “Going-Out Companion” and I stopped by OXO late Friday night. Here’s the deal: XSV will play about 30 seconds of a song, then transition it into another song. And the songs are ri-dic. It’s not something I could appreciate every night, but it was awesome to hear “Hang Tough,” “I Want to Sex You Up,” and “Mmmbop.” I happen to love “Mmmbop.” I was way into it, much to the amusement (or horror, maybe) of MGOC. I returned on Saturday and had way too much fun again, way too late!
Escafe
We heart belmont yo. We do. Seriously. He plays techno songs I secretly LOVE. I play them on my iPod when I’m working out, so I can appear all serious and intent on reading my New Yorker and pumping that elliptical, but inside my head, it’s Escafe on Friday.
Sam Hill’s New Year’s Party
I hear they had an awesome piano guy who played requests. I also hear it was packed, with a great Charlottesville crowd of music-lovers. And I also hear Stevie Jay was there. Were you there?
X Lounge
Awesome, obvi.
Bang!
Best service ever. Our waitress made MGOC feel like the special occasion it was. [Read the review.]
Siips
MGOC described it as a “country club party.” Accurately.
