Me and friends

Hi, Kyle asked me to write something for the site and here I am.

I’m a Cville native now living in DC and working for immigrant justice in Virginia. Cvillain’s great, and I’d oh so love to hear what y’all thought about something I’m working with.

Tomorrow, two folks I work with are going to walk across the US-Mexico border without government issued identification. They are walking forty miles through the Sonoran desert to a border patrol highway checkpoint south of Tucson, AZ.

This week at least 300 workers were arrested in a series of poultry plant raids. In the past several months throughout Virginia dozens of workers have been arrested and detained in similar raids, and are currently undergoing deportation proceedings. Many immigrants, documented and undocumented, are living in fear throughout the state. Grade schools in Harrisonburg have had to figure out where to send kids after their parents have been essentially kidnapped from their workplaces.

My friends are crossing the border because all the heroic work being done around the state by immigrants and allies hasn’t been able to stop the tide of anti-immigrant legislation and hate spreading everywhere. If more people don’t step up, take notice, and act, we’ll wake up in a police state. »Read More
