The City of Charlottesville is offering a job fair today, from 10:00AM – 3:00PM, at the John Paul Jones arena. With unemployment around 7% in the city, there was apparent need for a second yearly job fair, in addition to the event held last spring. This event has over 500 open positions available, and includes services for resume writing, free parking, and ‘image consultants’ to ‘help job seekers look their best’.
More photos and coverage shortly. [Info]

Big town, or small city. I remember when the debate was still going on about whether we should accept the ‘city’ status, or stick it out as the town we had always been. That same duality has probably led us to the current October lineup, as we are getting ready to welcome both Metallica & Thievery Corporation into our midst.
The boys who hated Napster are continuing their World Magnetic Tour at JPJ on the 17th. They recently celebrated their EIGHTH Grammy win, and perhaps even more important, their own GUITAR HERO. [Info]
Thievery Corporation, a favorite of trendy restaurants the world over, have taken a more political stance on ‘Radio Retaliation’, their most recent album. Their music blends world beat and DJ’ing into one seamless act, and will be available for your perusal October 29th @ The Pavilion. [Info]
I’m betting that MANY more Villains will be attending one of these events, but let’s see:

My companion and I enjoyed very much the performance of the Blue Man Group Saturday night at the JPJ, but were shocked at what we encountered upon leaving – or attempting to.
Having been seated fairly close to the stage we weren’t surprised that the long lines leading up the staircase to the hallways were slow moving, after all there were a lot of people attending the show that night. Once we reached the top, we proceeded, along with many others, towards the brightly lit “Exit” signs nearby, only to be told by a JPJ employee that “um, that’s not really an exit.” Really? Pardon me for misunderstanding, but is it legal to have large glowing exits signs over doors that are not really exits? The show took place in only half of the arena; does this warrant blocking half the exits? »Read More
