The Great Cocktail Ripoff

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like cocktails have gotten more expensive in this town. I am a big fan of cocktails, so much, in fact, that my friends often crucify me for not drinking more manly drinks, a la Bud Light. Cocktails represent a right de passage in this town. It’s what separates the gentlemen from the boys. Honestly, cocktails represent the defining factor of how a restaurant thinks about itself.

Why cocktails?

Cocktails imbue those who drink them with status, prestige and mostly, alcohol. They are a way of explaining to your friends, I have an exotic palette and my sexual appeal is exponentially related to the exoticness of my palette. From whiskey muddles, to dirty martinis, you have a host of purchased meanings to flaunt at the bar. Oh, and did I mention restaurants love to be the granter of sex appeal?
