Ivy businesses I want to get to know… but I can’t.
I drive down Ivy at least weekly, but it was not until my transformation into a gossip godess that I stopped to think, “Huh. I wonder how that business is doing. Too bad I don’t… »Read More

This is the real deal, folks. If you disagree, you obviously have not the powers of the bearer of thunder and lightning, nor the gentle powers of a storm demon who brings death and disease to your village. »Read More

I’m dreaming of a small business
It’s that time of year when I sit in my office, slaving away over budgets for the next fiscal year and finishing up mind numbing performance reviews that I always begin to procrastinate by checking out the websites of small businesses and organizations in Charlottesville that I fantasize about working for. Some of my personal favorites are Blue Moon Fund and GreenBlue, both of which I imagine would fulfill my conflicting desire to “do good” while still holding a challenging professional career that makes pretty good money (all without having to get a law or medical degree - I never said it was a reasonable dream). I’ve also been eyeing the Southern Enviornmental Law Center, but that may be difficult with my no law school requirement.
Are there other businesses I should add to this list of “wow - this is based in Charlottesville?” - even if it isn’t do-gooder, I still think it’s amazing to see just how many hedge funds are based in our little hamlet, for example. Also, does anyone out there work for these elusively ideal companies - feel free to either rub it in my face about how much you look forward to getting up every morning, or assure me that you in fact covet my anonymous position in a “highly matrixed multinational marketing organization.”
So I guess what I’m asking it, what are the best places to work in Charlottesville, my fellow villains?

Shortened Title: Ladies, what would you want and where do I get it?

There are so many stores in Charlottesville that sell stuff that girls like. I mean soaps, lotions, pillows, jewelry, you know all that stuff that gets you a smile and you don’t really understand why?
I need to maintain my masculine by getting in and out quickly while making a perfectly executed decision. But, I need some guidance. »Read More

It’s ON, Belmont: Beer Run is open!

Photo Courtesy of Tom Daly PhotographyÂ
While out walking the mintypup this evening I did a double-take passing the Carlton Center: although the table saws and lumber are still parked outside, the neon light was flashing “o-p-e-n”. I ventured in for a looky-loo, and was pleasantly surprised at what lay behind those brown kraft-papered windows.

Blinded by the Light
I NEED A TAN. A hot guy at the gym had to avert his eyes from the astonishing whiteness of my legs yesterday. He walked away squinting, then called his friend and suggested they go catch some rays in the glow of my white-ass legs. »Read More
