[from Indie Dork]
Some people on here rejoice when UVA students flee town, but I don’t. I work for Greater C-ville Habitat for Humanity (cvillehabitat.org) and those oft-maligned students are a huge portion of our construction labor. In their absence, we are really hurting for some…any… warm bodies to help us keep things rolling until they start coming out again in mid-February.

I enjoyed the C-VILLE’s review of Live Arts’ A Little Night Music. Has anyone been? I’d like to hear more reviews!

We Want to Give Free Advertising to Non-Profits.
We are going to launch our new site design in the next month or two and we’d figured it’s a good idea to give back to the community. So, here is the deal…
Why do you want to advertise on our site?
In a given month, we reach over 20,000 visitors and serve over 80,000 page views. It’s free to reach these people. We will take care of the technology stuff, you just need to get us your artwork.
Here are the rules:
- We will have limited space, so we reserve the right to exclude any applicant.
- Business focused or business service/networking non-profits aren’t allowed.
- Your non-profit must have IRS Section 501(c)(3) exemption status and proof of this exemption.
- You must either have an office in Charlottesville area or do a considerable amount of your work in the Charlottesville area.
- You may not cross-promote with a for-profit entity.
- We will run your advertisement for an initial 2 week period, starting sometime in the next two to eight weeks, but we may extend this period.
How do you submit?
Easy as 1, 2, 3.
1. Create JPEGs or GIFs to be displayed on the site. We will need a 125×125 JPEG or GIF and at least one of the following sizes: 160×600 Wide SkyScraper, 300×250 Medium Rectangle or 728×90 Leaderboard.
2. Email your artwork, proof of non-profit status, the link you want your banner to direct people to and any other information that is relevant to your nonprofit.
3. Check back on the site for our relaunch of our design and your free ads! Watch people come to your site. WOOHOO.
Questions/Concerns should be directed to nonprofit@cvillain.com

Given your interest, we have setup a PayPal donation account for Jayne McGowan’s non-profit. DeParis Redinger LLC will pass on all of the proceeds to the AIDS/HIV Services Group (less PayPal’s obnoxious fees). We have talked with the the non-profit and as long as you provide personal information (name + address) in your donation, they will send you the standard non profit donation form so you can write it off your taxes.

Please donate and check back on this site to see how much we’ve raised!
(we have no affiliation with the AIDS/HIV Services Group)

Beta Bridge paint removal under consideration
Not surprisingly, the issue of “tradition” came up when the University of Virginia’s Facilities Management proposed to strip Beta Bridge of hundreds of layers of paint, citing safety as its concern. When a chunk fell off earlier this year, it was discovered that some coats were still moist from years ago, having been covered with new messages before aerating. I learned that a proposal was submitted by an art student a few years ago to remove the paint as performance art. I wonder if the student ever attempted it, and if so, if he/she was stopped in the name of “tradition.”

The unexpected theme of 91.9 WNRN’s fall pledge drive seems to be, “DJ Tim Davis will do almost anything for your money.” I’ve been doing my best to follow the excitement in my Point-A-to-Point-B time, and so far, he has shaved a body part(s?) and is considering an offer of $100 in the next drive to wear a schoolgirl outfit and ride on the back of someone’s motorcycle for an hour. This is a schoolgirl outfit he has already worn.
Tim, hats off to you and your commitment to community radio! cVillains, your fantasies can become realities.

This will by no means be an exhaustive list. What can I say? I’m not that cool.
Allons, enfants de la patrie! That’s French for, “Let’s go, kiddos.” Thomas and Vu are offering (drumroll, s’il vous plait) $2 Jager and $2 Red Stripe starting this weekend at Zinc. Remember the Kronenbourg too. Vive la France! And check out Butterhouse next week…
You may remember the Sea & Cake from such popular late ’90s songs as “Sporting Life” and 2000’s “All the Photos.” Or maybe you won’t. But they’re playing at the Satellite Ballroom tonight, and I think they’re pretty cool.
If you can’t make it to a show, enjoy some musical fruit at Saturday’s Vegetarian Festival in Lee Park. Now in its 11th year with 100 exhibitors, the festival will offer a wide variety of delicious, vitamin-rich ways to save a cow and share stories of that time your fingerling potatoes were cooked in duck fat. Other slant: free international food with really nice healthy people who could be single and very attractive.
Speaking of things that grow in the ground: I have no words for this pumpkin. Just awe.
UVA fan? Tonight, the Hoos play Tech in soccer, and tomorrow night, they take on Pittsburgh in football. I don’t have a witty remark for sports right now. Just saying…
Fall Foxfields! I already previewed it. The weather will be perfect!

come on you guys, how could you miss the 200 riders out there in the fall heat riding for a cause? There were bikes everywhere west of town on Sunday, including the kids from Boys and Girls Club……

A percentage of dinner & late night revenue will be donated to the Charlottesville Heart Walk which raises funds to fight heart disease.
