I’ve witnessed strands of political banter on this site. I’m not sure exactly how to focus our discussion, so I’d figure it’s a good idea to start with the Iowa Caucus. I’m sure you all know the results. They are summarized below (source):
Democrats:
Barack Obama (38%), John Edwards (30%), Hillary Clinton (29%), Bill Richardson (2%), Joe Biden (1%), Chris Dodd 0%, and Dennis Kucinich 0%
Rebpublicans:
Mike Huckabee (34%), Mitt Romney (25%), Fred Thompson (13%), John McCain (13%), Ron Paul (10%), Rudy Giuliani (4%), and Duncan Hunter (1%)
New Hampshire doesn’t happen until January 8th, so these results mean very little in the great scheme of things; but the Republican results surprised me.
While I will never reveal my political affiliation on this site, I am going to rip on both winners. In fact, I’m going to be the ANTI-POLITIK for 2008. That’s right candidates, I will make fun of all of you! Ready, set, go… »Read More

Capshaw.. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN, I KNOW YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS. A music nut just sent me this link about Zep playing at Bonnaroo:
Led Zeppelin will reportedly play their first US show in over 30 years at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. The news source is an email in a newsletter written by Bob Lefsetz, who publishes The Lefsetz Letter which looks at the music industry. The email also reported that Metallica will headline the festival, set to take place in June, says Billboard.
All I can say is rock on. I’m excited! Does anyone else have the deets on this one?

THEY ARE THIEVES FOR STEALING OUR IDEA! [NYT]
Actually, it’s pretty cool that C-Ville gets compared with the likes of Brooklyn, Portland, Copenhagen, Paris and Lyon.
The New York Times blogger, Jake Mooney, used to work in Charlottesville. Does anyone know where?

You might think this is the thing in West Virginia, but no, no it’s from Florida. You can read the wiki.

Year’s best prank award goes to whomever started this rumor. How long till this hits the streets of Charlottesville?

I [heart] Charlottesville, but there are great events taking place in DC this week –and every week– that would be well worth checking out.
Monday: Patrick Wolf @ the Black Cat, 1811 14th NW, $15 Details
This will be a show… And this guy’s gonna get real famous.
Tuesday: Jose Gonzalez @ the 9:30 Club, 815 V NW, $20 Details
If you can’t go, just download “Crosses.” Great song.
Thursday: Paulo Nutini @ the 9:30 Club, 815 V NW, $20 Details
Ladies, if you like being sung to by shaggy tattooed skinny-jeans boys (like me), then you’ll like Paulo. He’s often described as “cute,” and I’m sure he loves that.
Friday: Hirshhorn After Hours, Independence and 7th SW, $12 at door Details
Museums after-hour wine tours and receptions are not new, but I think the Hirshhorn’s is. Go and tell me about it! I can’t this time.
Weekend: Maryland Renaissance Festival, 10-7 through October 21, Crownsville, MD Details
It’s my featured event. This is the most fun you can possibly have on a Saturday. Eat a turkey leg, see the sword swallower, take in some jousting, have your face painted– you will not regret the drive!
Sunday: Redskins vs. Lions, Landover, MD Details
Football. ‘Nuff said.

Ryan Adams had meltdown at show (again)
I wonder what would have happened if he had pulled something like that here. Where does he get off?

For those of us who didn’t get a chance to hear Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speak at Columbia University yesterday, it seems y’all missed out. While he did say some shocking things like there are no homosexuals in Iran…period, and the Holocaust is not is a sham, the NY Times coverage of the 2 hour speech/rant/rave/whatever you want to call it, provides an interesting glimpse at this radical head-of-state. You can catch the first 10 minutes on this video:

In response to his homosexual comment, one of my Columbia friends sent me this email:
“this would be quite the metaphysical experience for me if i ever visited Iran -instant sexual reversal upon crossing a geopolitical border, or I’d be some sort of mime crashing into an invisible Iranian box, or maybe i’d just vanish. Anyway, aside from him denouncing me, it was very enlightening”
I think we are in store for quite a show when he speaks a the U.N. later this week. While it seems his speech had many moments of ridiculousness, having him and President Bush duke it out on stage in front of the entire world will be truly entertaining.

I did a “boomerang” from Austin to Charlottesville a year ago, and I had to go back for the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Believe the hype.
