Sorry, I didn’t see you there. Looks like you caught me sending and receiving email on my iPhone, which also has Google and even the internet! Oh man I can’t wait to join the ranks of you obnoxious bastards. The new iPhone was unveiled yesterday, and unless you were living under an e-rock at your i-job, you watched the Mac Rumors liveblog and had little daydreams about going to the store and buying the iPhone last night.
Do you have or plan to get the new iPhone?

We recently had a very good discussion on the Charlottesville economy. Many of you chimed in with interesting comments. Let me highlight a few..
From Lys:
My friends in the restaurant business are nervous about raising prices for fear of driving away customers, but their margins are not what they need to be, so I suspect that will go into full effect come summer when business starts to slow down for anyone who doesnt have patio space on the mall. Overall I think Charlottesville is at least a B from my humble perspective.
From Smiley:
I think our local economy will be somewhat buffered from larger recessionary pressures by UVa. Let’s face it, this is a company town and the University drives the economy. As long as there are thousands of kids coming to school and spending money, along with thousands of employees with stable jobs and health care, I think we can weather most economic storms pretty well. That’s not to say that everyone is immune from economic woes, but I do think this area is in a better position economically than most.
From Ernest:
I’ve seen old people moving (kicked out) from their homes because of taxes. Most of the my children’s teachers live outside of the county limits due to high housing costs. Have seen many subdivisions build in the county, houses priced 400K and over that attract people to our once #1 city.
From Belmont Yo:
My main job has slowed way down, slowest by far that it has been in the nine years I have worked here (thus my post quantity - I am trying to stave off insanity). I haven’t had a raise in five years, and the cost of living raises I do get are eclipsed by the increase in health care costs, so my net salary actually goes down. Then again, I am lucky to even have health care.
With all these insights, and a Daily Progress article about a declining quality of life, I wanted to ask you guys the same question:

A little birdie sends in a link for a “postie poo.” After that heading, shenanigans, I’d publish anything.
So the news is that 50% of British Men would give up sex for 6 months to get a 50 Inch Plasma TV.
The article explains:
Electrical retailer Comet surveyed 2,000 Britons, asking them what they would give up for a large television, one of the latest consumer “must-haves”. The firm found 47 percent of men would give up sex for half a year, compared to just over a third of women…
A quarter of people said they would give up smoking, with roughly the same proportion willing to give up chocolate.
What would you give sex up for?

You may or may not have seen our little birdie before. Maybe you are not a frequent reader of the site or maybe you are color blind (’cause he sits on the top right). I looked over the old thread where we introduced him to you and realized that you have a lot of ideas for his names. I’m going to setup a poll to narrow down the choices for names. The top names or so will be included in the final, shortened list and there will be one last voting round. Feel free to add names and tell your friends!
What shall we name our mascot?

Ladies and gentlemen, it has to occurred to me in the wee hours of the morning that you are all studious and intelligent people. I frequent various places around town to do my studying. You probably do as well.
I’m interested in figuring out where you think the best place to study. By study, I do not mean eye candy. I mean actually sitting down and cranking through the books in a distraction-less, potentially caffeine induced environment.
Where is the best place to (actually) study in Charlottesville?

As mentioned previously, we asked readers to submit their best Charlottesville area pictures. We’ve narrowed down entries into our favorite four. Now, it’s up to you to decide the Best of the Best. The winning photographer will receive eternal cVillain fame as well as free advertising.
These pictures are all winners in my opinion. It goes to show you how much talent we have locally. Picture and poll below:

I’m curious as to how many ‘lurkers’ there are out there, and maybe some of you are too?
Here’s what I’d like (humor me if you will): if you’ve come to this site and are reading this, I’d like you to please post a comment. It doesn’t have to be “War and Peace”, a simple “here” will do as if we were taking attendance (not asking on behalf of the site by the way, just my own personal request here). Its easy to do, make up a username, hell make up an e-mail address if you’d like I’m just curious about numbers, not who you are. If you’d like to though, feel free to tell us a little about yourself or what you’d like to see more of here (this may be a good future poll topic, Thor, if you’re reading this) more restaurant and other reviews? more gossip? non-local items that are interesting or funny grabbed from cyberspace? more UVA related stuff? Like to come here to read, but don’t want to post, thats fine and a simple “here” will do. Heard a good joke and want to share it? Make that your comment.
