Midtown vs West Main Street Naming Rights

Ok, looks like there is a little brouhaha going on about the name change we have arbitrarily applied to the area from the 10th Street to the Lewis and Clark statue on West Main Street. It all began with Iron’s analysis entitled “The Coming (Tectonic) Shift to Midtown.”

Several readers have explained their disgust at our arbitrary naming rights:

Please stop calling West Main Street Midtown. While I am happy to see so many new faces in Cville, and with them great new restaurants, Midtown is a simply ridiculous name for an area that is only a few blocks long. Look around folks, it has been West Main Street for a long time and always will be. Does the opening of three or four new restaurants (and potentially good restaurants) truly warrant a name change here? I don’t think so.

Midtown? Nonono, we already have a perfectly good name for that. We’ve been using it for the past 150 years. West Main Street.

What do you think? Personally, I think Midtown is a logical progression from Downtown. Also, what happens if this area expands beyond the actual street? This will happen sooner than later with that giant parking lot for sale as well as those condo developments behind Continental Divide. Please share your thoughts!

Cville Real Estate Blogging is Self-Promoting LAMENESS

So, I was doing my morning searching on Charlottesville (believe me, I do it every day for 3 hours) and you know what I realized?

Charlottesville Real Estate Agents Think It’s Really Cool to Blatantly Self-Promote Themselves

If the team of cVillain were to blatantly self promote ourselves in the same likeness of our real estate brethren, a sample post would look like this:

Perezhilton.com has nothing on us.  We are #1 blog to go to.  NOW IS THE TIME TO READ.  Advertisers, send us billions.  We like your family.  Trust us as your adviser in your blog reading.  Blog reading is at an all time high.  cVillain.com is super-fantastic fabulous.  At least give it a look.  You can call us at 1 (800) Friendly Blog.

Ok, you get the point (or I’m not funny).  But seriously, here is our mini-review of the real-estate blogging community.

Roy Wheeler “Market Insights”:It should be called “We don’t care what you think, use our agents.” Titles like “Now is Time to Buy” and “First Time Home Buyers” speak for themselves.  Very Lame.  The site doesn’t even let you comment on posts.  Marketing-blah.  WHY DO THEY EVEN NEED A BLOG?  They even take the opportunity to tell self-sellers of properties that they are IDIOTS.  Good job Roy, way to blatantly self-promote, ignore the community and sound like a jerk.  You are super lame.

Gerry Russell:  It appears Gerry isn’t as bad at self-promotion.  She actual puts informative links on the blog, but honestly, let’s try to be a little more personal.  Who is doing the website management?  Your 10 year old neighbor?  The site looks worse than than that mutilated organ pile on 250 from the freshest deer auto-assassination.  Gerry, you aren’t lame or cool.  You are right in the middle.  Personalize your blog.  Anyone can go around and Google links to CAAR and other real estate posts.

Jim Duncan:  Your site is ugly as sin, but I do think you actually post relevant information.  The problem is you are trying to pagerank yourself by having different sites that seem unrelated to each other.  We know you like Crozet but seriously, combine all that stuff into one.  Blatant page ranks are so 2006.

Cville Area Real Estate:  The self-proclaimed “Charlottesville’s most insightful real estate blog” really isn’t that insightful. Mad points (not really) for securing an RSS feed from the other website, Unless, of course you mean long, poorly written accounts of taking really easy continuing education classes in real estate.  It isn’t clear to me why “anything worth doing is worth doing right; and anything worth doing right is going to be hard” is bold, but maybe someone can enlighten me.  Your blog posts are really boring.  Maybe you should change your name to “Charlottesville’s most pointless blog.”  You rank slightly lame, but that’s only because Roy Wheeler is so bad.

Cville Rentals:  Glad you can copy the NY Times “All the News that’s Fit to Print.”  Very witty.  Did you go to college for that?  Sorry, those are low blows, I know, but it’s because I actually like your blog.  Maybe it’s because you are about rentals, not purchases?

That’s all folks. If I missed anyone’s site, please let me know!
