More Deets on CVS on the Corner

C-Ville Weekly reads our rumors about Satellite and CVS and does a follow up story.

I like the C-Ville, but seriously, could you mention us in the article as an inspiration for your journalistic pursuits?

Anyway, despite the fact that we are mere “blog chatter,” we still don’t know anything about the situation.  The article doesn’t mention the whole discussion started as a result of the still unconfirmed rumor that Satellite’s lease will not being renewed.

The C-Ville does report that CVS hasn’t signed anything but they did look at the space.  It’s all still a rumor, that’s the story.

Week in Review: 2/25/2008 to 3/02/2008

legs spring charlottesvilleAh, the last week to feel winters wrath. I’m glad it’s gone. It sure did get cold last week; down to the teens! I digress.

Last week we reached a new monthly record. At the end of February, despite being a short month, we had over 10,000 absolutely unique visitors and 140,000 page views! Between working an extra day (because God forgot it) and our heated debate over spamming, things were mighty fun this week. I think everyone was pissed that we have to keep waiting for spring to show her sexy little legs.

We sacrificed Tofu to the spring gods in hopes that spring would come faster.

CVS Coming to the Corner?

Jim sends us a link that explains CVS is coming to the corner.  We failed to highlight this rumor which actually hit our site on Feb 26.  DaveO explains:

The owner of the building is Terry from College Inn who owns much of 2 blocks on the corner including the Plan 9 & Higher Grounds coffee space, Just Curry, and the Satellite Ballroom. All of these businesses will be affected and will close, probably this summer, to be replaced by….. CVS Pharmacy. This is not a rumor, this is a fact. It’s probably too late to voice any objection because the CVS lease has in all likelihood already been signed.

I should make stuff like this its own post!

Gossip Websites Are Ruining UVA? A Deeper Look.

A little birdie sends in an article about UVA Gossip sites.… I always wonder why the Cav Daily staff can’t produce better articles. They totally miss some obvious things. We discover the “anonymous editors” who run StreakTheLawn.com and help out the Cav Daily with a deeper look into those gossip sites.

The first thing they missed:

UM, HELLO YOU MISSED CVILLAIN, WHICH SPAWNED THE OTHER SITES! »Read More

Pink Balls Return to Belmont?

BALLS OVER BELMONT!

Tuffy sends us in visual evidence from last night (2/25/2008):

pink paintball belmont

He explains:

Pink Paintballs spotted in Belmont right by Mas. Keep youryes peeled. But don’t get pink eye. The pic may look like gross gum spit, but the paintball casing was about feet (1.2 meters) away.

So, are they back? Did anyone get pink paintballed?

The Real Reason Van Halen Cancelled the Charlottesville John Paul Jones Arena Concert?

van halen charlottsville concert cancellation

Ok, I’ve had enough tipsters sending this in that it should be a full post on it’s own. I think we can solve this puzzle quickly. Let us know in the comments below and read one very smart birdie’s insights.

UPDATE, Thanks DONK: The roadies [who went to Rapture, not the band members] let out the word that Eddie & Wolfgang got into an inter-band fight the night before in Florida.

Van Halen recently canceled a planned show at the John Paul Jones arena. An awesome little birdie sends in a link to an “industry-leading” website called “Ticket News.” The website explains: »Read More

Peace Palace Coming to Charlottesville

meditation peace palace charlottesville

Given our recent discussion that freaked me out more than anything, I know we are obsessed with cults on this site. Whether it’s a secret fascination with Tom Cruise’s Oprah-shocking ability or the idyllic love of benign tree lovers just outside of town, we all have a little place in our heart for these abnormal human associations.

Reading through a recent NYT article “Sites for ‘Maharishi Effect’ (Welcome to Parma) Spread Across U.S.,” I discovered that one of the intended sites for future peace palaces was… you guessed it… little old CHARLOTTESVILLE VIRGINIA. I do not kid.

Restaurant Rumors: Al Dente On The Move

A little birdie sends this in:

Al Dente will be moving into the Ix building, the buildout should take a couple of months.

Our birdie sheds some light on an ongoing rumor that a high end steakhouse and bourbon joint is coming to the mall.

Do people actually go to the IX building to eat?

Mall Quickie

From a little birdie…

Someone told me that they were walking down the mall and caught sight of some open air diddling last night…apparently the two wrapped it up and were left alone by the cops. I’m sure that people have had sex on the mall before, but it still strikes as a pretty, ahem, ballsy move for a Tuesday night.
