Prospect Ave Shooting

From the City…

At approximately 04:09am on Sunday June 7th , 2009 Charlottesville Police responded to the 700 block of Prospect Ave for a report of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that several shots had indeed been fired and that several stray rounds struck at least two apartments and one vehicle. One of those rounds that  entered a residence through the exterior wall of a bedroom struck a 14 year old juvenile while asleep in bed. The victim was transported to the University of Virginia Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is now listed as being in stable condition.
Charlottesville Police are still investigating this incident and request anyone with information to contact Detective Jim Mooney at 434-970-3374 or Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.

Easter Waffle House Shooting

In the wee hours of this glorious Easter morning, someone shot into the Waffle House on 5th Street leaving a waiter injured and numerous drunk people pee-pant scared. According to NBC 29, police have no idea what happened, probably because all the witnesses were drunk and eyeball-deep in syrup and hash browns.

Anyone with information on this morning’s guncapades is encouraged to contact the police.

Shooting Last Night

A 44 year old man was shot while standing outside a Blue Ridge commons laundromat on the 700 block of Prospect Avenue last night around 9:30PM.  The man is listed in stable condition, but the shooter is still on the loose. He is described as black male between 18 and 25 years old, wearing a light colored jacket, blue jeans and a dark colored scarf. If anyone has more info, please call Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.

Mutliple Gunshots Heard Near Bolling Ave in Belmont Early Sunday Morning – Help Us Figure This One Out

We’ve had a lot of people report in about our original comment from Stanley about gunshots on Bolling Ave between 6th and Avon at about 1:30AM on Sunday Morning. Is this just another neighborhood emptying of rounds, was it related to the shooting on the corner, or are there more details we need to know? We don’t have any reported injuries.

Tuffy, Stanley and Clarice want to know.

Charlottesville Murder Suspect Voluntarily Turns Himself In

We learned from our commenters about a shooting that happened over the weekend. We didn’t know details until Chalottesville put out the official release which explained that one person had been shot and killed and three injured on Saturday at midnight outside of Pacino’s Deli on the Corner.  Today, we learn that Darryl Andre Johnson (pictured above), who had previously been a fugitive, has voluntarily turned himself into police.

Update on Weekend Shooting on the Corner

We have just been forwarded the press release about the weekend shooting brought up in this post.  Sadly, there was another homicide, this time at midnight on the Corner outside of Pacino’s deli.

Here is the press release:

On Saturday Morning, October 12, 2008, at approximately 0020 hours, Charlottesville Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1329 West Main Street in Charlottesville. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of 22 year old Phillip E. Adams, Jr., of Charlottesville, lying on the sidewalk adjacent to that location with an apparent gun shot wound to the chest area. Mr. Adams was transported to the UVA Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. Adams was attending a private party on the second floor of Pacino’s Deli, located at 1329 West Main Street, when he became involved in a confrontation with a subject later identified as Darryl Andre Johnson. During the course of the confrontation, Johnson is reported to have shot Adams and then subsequently fled the scene.

Johnson is described as black male, medium complexion, 20 years of age, 5-8, and 140 pounds.

Three other persons who were attending the party were also injured, but their injuries are not life threatening. Detectives are not releasing the names of those individuals at this point in their investigation.

Warrants have been obtained charging Johnson with Murder, Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Murder, Malicious Wounding, and Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Malicious Wounding.

Was there a shooting at Boylen Heights last night?

There were no police reports of shootings in today’s police bulletin.  I couldn’t find any reports in the “real” news.  Anyone have more details on either of these incidents?

Another Charlottesville Shooting – At Least They Slowed Down?

Shortly after 2:00a.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2008, the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) arrived at a parking lot in the 100 block of Water Street for a call of shots fired. Moments later, the Emergency Communications Center alerted police that a victim of a gunshot wound had arrived at the University Of Virginia Medical Center.

Charlottesville Police responded the University of Virginia Emergency Room and spoke with the victim, Jonathan Lee Barber, a 26 year old Albemarle County resident. Barber was admitted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with a gunshot wound and remains at the hospital in stable condition.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that Barber was also the victim in another shooting incident that occurred in Albemarle County on March 2, 2008.

Charlottesville officers and detectives are continuing to investigate this case to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting. City Police Detectives will be coordinating with Albemarle County Police Detectives to determine if there is any connection to the Albemarle County shooting incident that occurred in March 2008.

Charlottesville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on July 19th, 2008 in the 900 block of Page Street in the City of Charlottesville. At approximately 1900 hrs police responded to the area in response to a call from the Emergency Communication Center for a report of shots fired. Responding officers were able to locate several shell casings believed to be related to the shooting and a vehicle that had been struck by one of the bullets. Officers were then directed to the University of Virginia Medical Center where police identified an 18 year old Charlottesville resident who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest the, victim is being treated for his wound and is expected to recover.

Police have arrested and charged Calvin Earl Maupin an 18 year old Charlottesville resident from Page Street with two felony counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting.

Police also arrested and charged Robert Jason Burrell a 22 year old Charlottesville resident of Bailey road with one felony count of intentionally discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle. Burrell was a passenger in the vehicle the victim was operating.

Both subjects are being held without bond at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.

64 Shooter Sentence Suspended

 

The teenage boy who plead guilty for the I-64 shooting will spend 180 days in a juvenile center.  Brandon Dawson will be sent to the Blue Ridge Detention Center, have a supervised release and have to pay $12,500 in restitution.
