Ways to Celebrate the 2009 Presidential Inauguration in Charlottesville

While UVA plans to halt classes for inauguration, I doubt many of you get the privilege of halted work. But, regardless, here are some things to do during and after the workday:

Charlottesville: Top 6 Thanksgiving Getaways

I feel like we should have our own theme park.  On almost any list dedicated to US tourism, we usually make it in there.  And what isn’t to like?  igougo, a travelocity company, just released their top 6 holiday getaways:

Charlottesville’s collegiate commitment to tradition shows itself in the annual Blessing of the Hounds on Thanksgiving morning. Local expert tachi puts the event in her Charlottesville top 10 and recommends getting there early to watch a “ceremony rich in history” that is “taken quite seriously.” She says, “If you are in the area for Thanksgiving, this is a must-do.”

What do you think of tachi’s top ten things to do in cville? While her restaurant selection is well, non existent, she does point to some neat experiences like going to the Barboursville and Blenheim vineyards and horseback riding.  I have yet to try to the local wine scene or ride a horse and definitely appreciate the advice.  Thanks tachi!

Movies in the Park

You can catch a movie in the park this Saturday (and more) at 5:30 p.m. in Washington Park. Take a blanket and sweetheart and curl up for a relaxed evening in the park.

Evan Almighty will be playing (and since we are lucky enough to still have the ark to play on – this movie is the perfect movie to watch here!) this Saturday. The event is free and brought to you by our lovely parks and recs department.

There are future showings of movies scheduled. Check out the parks and rec site to find out more. (Their site has been down the last few days, but maybe it will magically start working now that I posted this).

Motown at Cassis tonight

A couple of friends of mine will be setting the mood at Cassis tonight. Here’s their blurb:

Jerome and the Thunder Progeny are reviving the sound of Motown tonight (Thursday) at 9:30 at Cassis. No Cover! As always, we’ll be playing Motown and Afro Pop, but NEW this week, will be the sounds of the 80s and 90s, the ones that we all loved growing up.

Definitely swing by and check it out.
