Many of you are Foxfield Races veterans, but perhaps many of you have never been. It’s a huge thing in Charlottesville. But not only does Foxfield appeal to local college students, young professionals and the families that have been doing it for years, it also brings back many UVA Alums, former townies and just those who like to party.
The ongoing joke about Foxfield is that you go to horse races, but you never see the horses. That’s a college joke. If you are out of college, you should see the horses. If you are in college, you need to be too plastered to see the horses, otherwise you haven’t really been to Foxfield.
Foxfield is such a monumental drinking even that people have even written studies about Foxfield and drinking. This study in particular found that 68% of Foxfield drinkers did something negative. Big surprise? I hope not. »Read More

Well everyone probably has Valentine’s Day plans, but in case you don’t here are some suggestions.
Me, I’ll probably just sit at home alone, think of new posts to write for cVillain and hope that everyone is having a good time. I didn’t really have a theme for these suggestions and I was trying to find singles non-lovey dovey stuff, but it’s hard. Charlottesville, your money is spent in couples on the 14th. It’s cool.
Anyway, here THREE events that caught my eye as well as THREE homemade solutions. If you are lazy, you will do a non-homemade solution, if you want serious plus points, do it homemade. Everything is local. Let me know what you think of the homemade ones and suggest your own!

Last Day of Exams is Today!
…Thus begins the long hiatus of Charlottesville. Believe it or not, returning family members make the town quite the happening place. Our standard fare of Blue Light, South Street and Mellow Mushroom get the most traffic from now-removed townies.

Enjoy it while it lasts. They come back in 4 weeks.
It’s also getting really quiet on the mall during the day. Our site traffic is dipping a little because of all the holiday distractions. Oh well. We have a kickass 2008 planned!

Thanks to Jim Duncan & the Daily Progress for this one! Too bad they don’t have pictures!

Tomorrow night, go on a date to the Lighting of the Lawn. Whether you’re taking your wife of 10 years or your 10 year-old daughter, the evening program of a cappella carols and a class poem reading is a very sweet way to spend quality time with someone you care about.
The UVA Bookstore charges a more modest hourly rate in the evening than during business hours, so a couple of hours should not set you back more than $5. What to expect? Private parties will be held in almost every Lawn room and Pavilion, but those without invitations or University affiliations should not be deterred from enjoying the show. Dress warmly, and bring a tailgate fold-out chair if you plan to stick around. Focus on the carols– the actual illumination, while beautiful, is a bit anticlimactic. I suspect we’ve been spoiled by fireworks over the years. Officially, it’s 6-9pm.

Al Groh, recently named ACC’s coach of the year, got a year contract extension for UVA football. Just in case you didn’t know that means that UVA football will pay him over $1.7 Million in 2008. For what I ask?
(CAVEAT: I’m not a football know it all)
Let’s take a quick look at the stats from this season:
9/1 @ Wyoming 2:00 (Versus) (L) 3-23
9/8 Duke 12:00 (LFS/Raycom) (W) 24-13
9/15 @ North Carolina 12:00 (W) 22-20
9/22 Georgia Tech 12:00 (W) 28-23
9/29 Pittsburgh 7:00 (W) 44-14
10/6 @ Middle Tenn. St. (W) 23-21
10/13 Connecticut 3:30 (W) 17-16
10/20 @ Maryland 8:00 (W) 18-17
10/27 @ N.C. State 4:30 (L) 24-29
11/3 Wake Forest 12:00 (W) 17-16
11/10 @ Miami 7:15 (W) 48-0
11/24 Virginia Tech (L) 21-33
Despite the fact that we had the easiest season ever, we barely beat teams we should have crushed. Why weren’t more games like Miami? Why, when Virginia Tech comes here do they completely outplay us? Groh, last season you were 5-7 and were pummeled by decent teams. Good thing FSU wasn’t on our roster this year.
I’m not sure if it’s due to lack of recruiting, a traditional run run run the ball playing style, ACC’s mistaken award, or what, but if Virginia football wants to get better (and make me happier), then maybe it’s a good idea to spend those millions elsewhere.
I know a lot of alums complain about Groh. They say he’s a nice person, but football is about kicking some serious ass. Groh needs to go back to school to figure things out.
Thoughts, football aficionados?

Disclaimer: This is only if it’s legal. DeParis Redinger? Can we can we?
I’m sure that Jesus likes nothing more than seeing his birth story blown up to a 9 foot tall nylon for $89.99, available immediately for delivery to lawns across America. And quite a likeness that is! Such detail! Now that is the meaning of Christmas.
And so begins the cVillain Holiday House Decoration Competition. I am getting coal in my stocking for this, but it could be worth it. Please, help make it worth it. Pay attention to water-cooler talk of 80,000 bulbs of holiday joy. Take your sweetie-pie on a scenic drive of neighborhoods at night.
To submit an entry, simply e-mail a digital image to cvillainlilith@gmail.com with the general location and the owner’s name if they want to own up to it. You can also e-mail me the address and I’ll go take a picture, as long as it’s within fifteen minutes of the downtown mall, including midnight traffic time. As long as I’m getting entries, I’ll post them. I’d like to think that the elves and reindeer being honored on Crozet rooftops and Earlysville lawns will be proud.
What’s the prize? “The absence of chagrin” apparently isn’t a motivator, so Thor and I will think of something.

Beta Bridge paint removal under consideration
Not surprisingly, the issue of “tradition” came up when the University of Virginia’s Facilities Management proposed to strip Beta Bridge of hundreds of layers of paint, citing safety as its concern. When a chunk fell off earlier this year, it was discovered that some coats were still moist from years ago, having been covered with new messages before aerating. I learned that a proposal was submitted by an art student a few years ago to remove the paint as performance art. I wonder if the student ever attempted it, and if so, if he/she was stopped in the name of “tradition.”

may be coming to you from a reputable journal in the future, this one’s purely prurient.
So the last girl I dated was well endowed, and by that I mean 36DDs, and I don’t just mean 36DDs, I mean the kind you’d see in Playboy, firm, perfectly shaped, and natural. The only problem was that the girl lugging them around thought they were her American Express Black Card and would get her what she wanted, when she wanted it, no questions asked. She used them as a tool, she used them as a weapon. Sometimes they were the carrot dangling from the end of the stick, sometimes they were the means to move to the front of the line or be served first, and sometimes it seemed like she thought that just showing up with them allowed her to ‘phone it in’ in the sack. Personally, I’m a C cup man myself, and firmly believe that the girls who bring a little less cleavage to the table make up for it by going that extra mile to make their partner happy when it counts. The Mae West’s out there (look it up youngsters) on the other hand seem to think they can offer less and get away with more just because of some pervasive ‘I’ll pay more to supersize it, even though I don’t need it’ attitude.
