Clandestine Meet-up

Any thoughts on having an ambiguous cvillain.com gathering? We could all show up at some typically crowded venue and try to guess who is in on the secret and who is just there because they would be anyway. I’m realizing that I dont (think I) know anyone involved in this site and it could be a fun little social experiment.

Site Updates, Changes and Thank You’s

I feel like it’s every week that I ask for suggestions and feedback from ya’ll but we have some new ideas for the site.

We put up a new poll for you buggers. Click it and stick it.

OY created a new word yesterday, “Hoo’niforms.” It got us thinking. Would it be a good idea to create a vocab section? If so, what words can’t be missed?

I’m so sorry.

So I think I’ve figured out why some of your comments are disappearing. What it boils down to is your posts contain a word or link that our little spam filter thinks is “SPAM.” While it does a good job catching most of the spam, it does eat your comments from time to time.

Questions for Improvement

I have some issues that are really bugging me:

  1. What can we do to make this site better? What do you want to see more/less of? How do I get you to write and keep commenting on articles?
  2. Why did you start using the Gossip forums (top link: Gossip) and then stop using them? Should we keep them or destroy them? Can we make them better?

Also, thanks for gossiping over here. We’re doing a good job and it’s only getting better because of you :) We love you all!

Best way to access cVillain.com

Typing in the main URL hasn’t been working for me. I recommend Googling it or an often-discussed restaurant OR bookmarking a blog entry. The navigation bar has sections for “recent posts” and “recent comments.” Thor and I will be fixing this soon (mostly Thor), and you may start to see some advertising around town.

I’m OLD!

Ethan, this one’s for you. Funny thing happened last night. I was out somewhere on the Corner, and I introduced myself to a woman who made it really clear, really fast, that she wasn’t a college student. While I was flattered that she thought I was in college and felt the need to tell me this (thanks mom and dad for the genes), I realized I do the same damn thing when I’m on the Corner. I was like, “I graduated the same year as you, so we’re older than everyone else together! Yay for us!” Not really. But WHY? As a friend would say, “it’s a real bitch move.” We’re saying older is better, on the Corner. Should I set up an office in the corner of the place for career counseling? Give a little “birds and the bees” advice?

Anyway, I have a question, please answer it. When someone with a hyphenated last name (”John Doe-Smith”) marries and has a kid, does the kid have three last names? Do the parents make an anagram? Will it fit on the kid’s driver’s license? Dare I ask what happens if two hyphenateds marry and spawn?

Upcoming: House Arrest Party

I highly recommend this event for anyone interested in the often-unseen side of Charlottesville– the very large international refugee community that exists here. If you’ve seen the movie Beyond Rangoon, which is a heartbreakingly awful, great film, you know.

One of the local Burmese men has been attacked, beaten, and robbed by masked persons while riding his bicycle home from work at night on Cherry Avenue. Is it possible that there are people like that living in this “peaceful” town? Does racism and violence HAVE to seethe beneath every surface? The man comes half way around the world to escape a terrorist regime, only to be treated like this in our “free” and “civilized” society?? Pathetic.

“Speculations and outdated facts” about “those goth kids that hang out on the mall”

Bella Morte

Do they have a name?
“Goth” is actually not how they identify themselves. They prefer “subculture.” What’s the difference? Little, as far as I know. I suspect the term actually came from “Subculture Shock,” a 91.9 WNRN program on Sunday nights hosted by Chris Knight, so it’s a local adaptation of the mainstream.
