The Southern - Joe Purdy With Julie Peel.  Joe is a rather popular folk singer among the Hollywood TV series group, having had his music featured on a number of Grey’s Anatomy & Lost episodes.  Interestingly enough, he releases on his independent music label and has managed to achieve 800K downloads on iTunes. @ 8:00PM – $15 [Info]

The Southern – Gypsy jazz?  Viking-vaudeville?  It could only be MAN MAN, the band so good they named it twice will be performing this evening.  These guys have opened for Modest Mouse, and we’ve all probably caught them either in Weeds or that Nike commercial.  @ 9:00PM – $15 [Info]

We say goodbye again to the children infested, no you can’t pay cash get a ticket, hey where’s your bracelet, weekly chance to listen under the big top.  Two bands are scheduled for tonight, namely Tim Be Told & InTechnicolor, or Ouch My Eyes & Moody In Black And White.  [Info]

A Night At The Races

First Night Virginia is holding a benefit this evening at the Greencroft Club in Ivy tonight, tickets start at $60 for a single, and $100 for a couple.  This will get you hors d’oeuvres, dessert, 2 wine or beer tickets, and some cash to spend at the blackjack or other casino style games.  If 10 Villains are interested, they have a group rate of $475.  [Info]

Hackensaw Boys At Veritas

Veritas closes the Starry Night events this year with a performance by the Hackensaw Boys, Jim Waive, & the Young Divorcees.  It should get kicked off on Saturday at 7PM and run till 11.  Bring a blanket or chairs, and Veritas has you covered on the wine side.  [Info]

Cosmonaut’s Ruin CD release w/ Worn in Red and Balaclava @ iS

Will be playing this Saturday at iS Venue. These guys are not to be missed if you’re into postpunk/drone spacerock. It’s loud and heavy and slow. Worn in Red is fantastic too – a local band just signed to No Idea records and about to take off touring a lot. I think this may be their last show in town until November and they will knock your socks off.  [Info] – CBob

This is also the last weekend for tubing on the James through JRR (as long as it’s warmer tomorrow), anyone brave enough to head out with temps as they’ve been?  Did we miss anything?
