Thank the heavens it isn’t pouring anymore. While last weekend was semi-lame, this weekend we introduce you to many things, from saving 20% at local stores to pub crawls to 2008’s best music. We also have some gift ideas for you, including art that has no status. This is a good preview, let’s rock it…

5,000 University of Virginia students and their families will storm Charlottesville on Saturday, the official move-in day for the University. If you haven’t experienced move-in day, you are a lucky clam.
Barracks Road turns into a cesspool of horrible driving, plastic-shelf buying, confused parents, eager children and their vehicles. Oh, and good luck getting through UVa grounds. I highly recommend you lay low or get out of town during the day.
On a high note, Charlottesville’s nightlife will be reinvigorated with new faces. Booya! If you have any funny move in day stories, please share!

All the stuff is after the break!

Wow, what a night. I hadn’t seen this many people on the mall in forever. Everyone came out of hibernation yesterday. The tough part was finding a nice place to be outside with the sea of people that came downtown.
Ventana (new place in place of Kiki) was full of Law and Darden students wearing sun dresses. I didn’t go in, but it looks like it was pretty exciting. While we have ripped on Splendora’s in the past (see The Great Cookie Roundup, one of my favorite articles, or Inside Scoop in Gelato), I did have the pleasure to try the gelato again. Spendora’s has gotten way better and I will write a new review.
Ten, as usual, was full of hot Dardenites and L1s, 2s, and 3s. Yummy. I also had the pleasure of walking by OXO which looked semi-bondage to me. I think OXO kicked ass on the interest level; everyone I talked to was aware of the party and their curiosity was there. But, the problem was no one wanted to go; perhaps it was the $15 cover, or the fear of leather. I don’t know. Did you go? We should have some pictures coming soon.

Come to OXO After Dark’s first ever theme Dance Party: BONDAGE.
It’ll be flirty, sexy, and provocative – but nothing hardcore. Think pretend bondage. SWPL.

If you’ve been really bad, you may be put into cage for a time out! You will get spanked by Shenanigans!

Well, I know that we are all going to pray for the continuation of this weather, but here are the events which I think are pretty sweet and unique.
Wine tastings @ Market Street, Crush and Beer Run.
Starting at 8PM on Friday, dance party at OURSPACE (414 e. main st. beneath the twisted branch tea bazaar) with oodles of DJs…. DJ’s John Midyette, Bristol, Boyd 80, Loki, and DJ Red Lab. Visuals by Colourboy.

If things get rainy, you can see the 7th Annual Ballroom Dance Spring Showcase at 8PM Tonight. Tickets are $7. Hopefully they can think of a shorter name in the future.

Oh ya, see OK GO at the UVA’s Spring Fest on Saturday. Remember it’s FREE! [more info]

And, as always, check out cvilleMUSE for a full preview of all of Charlottesville’s arts and music events.

Ah, the standard Friday wine tastings: Beer Run, Crush (with a “Screw Kappa Napa”), and Market Street.
Music: Son’s of Bill & Greg Brown, read our preview from cvilleMUSE.
Red panties! Don’t forget to submit your red panties pictures/artwork for our contest. Remember you can wine a bottle of wine from Crush!
Public night on Friday at McCormick Observatory – Read a review from doofus.
Barhoppers, Sunday Night! This sounds awesome. Read our preview from Tuffy.
Zinc Anniversary Party on Saturday Night!
Tonight at the cafeteria will be a bit different and a bit special. It will be ABSOLUTely enhanced with new green flavor. Usually, in instances like this, there are lots of freebies, shirts, specials etc., Last time, Escafe broke the New Year’s Eve bar sales record, and the elevation of the dance was out of control.
Salsa Sundays – Lu Sid’s review.
As always, add your events below!

Ah, the last week to feel winters wrath. I’m glad it’s gone. It sure did get cold last week; down to the teens! I digress.
Last week we reached a new monthly record. At the end of February, despite being a short month, we had over 10,000 absolutely unique visitors and 140,000 page views! Between working an extra day (because God forgot it) and our heated debate over spamming, things were mighty fun this week. I think everyone was pissed that we have to keep waiting for spring to show her sexy little legs.
We sacrificed Tofu to the spring gods in hopes that spring would come faster.

Ok, I’ve had enough tipsters sending this in that it should be a full post on it’s own. I think we can solve this puzzle quickly. Let us know in the comments below and read one very smart birdie’s insights.
UPDATE, Thanks DONK: The roadies [who went to Rapture, not the band members] let out the word that Eddie & Wolfgang got into an inter-band fight the night before in Florida.
Van Halen recently canceled a planned show at the John Paul Jones arena. An awesome little birdie sends in a link to an “industry-leading” website called “Ticket News.” The website explains: »Read More

Van Halen got canceled (or so we heard), so there have got to be some more things to do this weekend.
In no particular order, my top 4:
- UVA Dance Marathon Party – Friday, 10PM to raise money for UVA Children’s hospital.
- Old School Freight Train – Friday, 7:30PM at Gravity Lounge.
- Ryan Shaw is playing at Outback at 8PM TONIGHT. He was scheduled to open for Van Halen. Read more at 106.1. D/R told me that 106.1 auctioned off Ryan to the highest paying venue this afternoon.
- Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit/Will Hoge @ Satellite 8PM on Saturday
