The Great Charlottesville Cookie Roundup

Contributing to this article were: Dr. Jonas von Klenk, Master C, & Jimmy Chocolate Chunkster Junior

After an argument over Charlottesville’s best cookies which involved chains, tasers, boot knives, diapers, and the Police, we decided to settle the issue amicably and as scientifically as possible.

While we initially tried to hire Dr. von Klenk’s rival, Chocborg Tolman at Oxford, we ultimately settled for the less illustrious Klenk, an aspiring rapper, and child with Type II diabetes in a Rascal scooter.

This is the story of three strangers, picked to live in a house and judge cookies. (Caveat: Jimmy, Jr. had to be home for an 8:00 bed time, per his mother’s request.)

Valet Parking at Barracks Road.. HAR HAR HAR

Did anyone see the “Valet Parking” Section of Barracks Road? It’s in the parking lot across from Blue Ridge Mountain Sports.

I laughed.  Are you kidding me?  Valet parking in Charlottesville is ridiculous.  Valet Parking at Barracks Road is even more ridiculous.

By the time you wait for someone to go get your car you might as well have spent the time finding a parking spot.

Translation: Charlottesville gets 6th place in its respective category for being a “Digital City.” Is it because of cVillain? Yes, clearly.

The ranking is based on the 2007 Digital Cities Survey and examines how city governments utilize digital technologies to better service their citizens and streamline operations.

The sad part is we lost to Lynchburg. You can find the results here.

1st Town of Jupiter, Fla. (tie)
1st City of Lynchburg, Va. (tie)
2nd City of Medford, Ore.
3rd City of Delray Beach, Fla.
4th Town of Enfield, Conn.
5th City of Boynton Beach, Fla.
6th City of Charlottesville, Va.
7th Town of Blacksburg, Va.
8th Town of Manchester, Conn.
9th Town of Flower Mound, Texas

Team Jefferson Didn’t Make It, *tear*

Maybe you saw Team Jefferson demo their lovable robot vehicle at Star Hill a few weekend ago. Maybe, not.

What is this all about? Team Jeff gives the lowdown:

In 2007, a new challenge, the Urban Challenge, will take place with autonomous vehicles navigating city driving conditions, merging with traffic, obeying traffic laws, parallel parking, and many other new challenges. The Urban Challenge requires that vehicles autonomously navigate over 60 miles of such conditions in 6 hours or less. A first prize of $2 million is being offered followed by a $500k second prize and $250k third prize. Team Jefferson intends to be there.

But, as you can see from the gallery of the vehicles, UVA didn’t make the cut. Smarter schools like MIT, UPENN and Stanford made it. Sorry guys, better luck next year. Did the S. Street beer have anything to do with it?

If you are really interested, you can watch the event live on Saturday at 7:30AM. Wohoo, you know where cVillains are gonna be.

Parking Aholishness #2

The infamous Upstart explained:

Taken at the Tip Top Diner on Pantops on Sunday. Bad parking must be contagious.

It’s such a busy place for breakfast that you’d think people would be aware of taking up multiple spots like this.

Picture after the break…3 cars, 8 spots. WOW

Nitrous Party?

Folks, was there an excess of nitrous balloons around the downtown mall late Saturday night or was it just me?  I didn’t know Charlottesville was that public about its drug consumption.

At Regent Law School, You Don’t Have Freedom of Speech on Facebook

In case you didn’t know Regent University was founded by televangelist Pat Robertson. Recently a student posted a freeze-frame picture from a YouTube video on FaceBook where Robertson is giving the middle-finger. Guess what happened?

The second-year law student said officials at the private Christian university in Virginia Beach demanded that he publicly apologize, then withhold public comment about the matter, or submit to the law school dean a legal brief defending the posting. Key chose the latter, arguing that his posting was satire protected under the First Amendment.

Video link is here. Sorry, couldn’t find it on YouTube.
