Alaskan Bush People Glazed Over Bear Brown’s Arrest, Viewers Think There’s More To The Story
Bear Brown was arrested for alleged domestic violence, and viewers think Alaskan Bush People won't tell the whole story.
Alaskan Bush People has intrigued viewers from the start. The Brown family has an interesting past, and their reality TV run began with the family living in the remote Alaskan wilderness, making a life for their large family. These days, after the passing of the family patriarch, Billy, things have changed for the remaining Browns. A handful of the Brown kids have gotten married and had children, and while the family relocated to Washington state, some are now returning to the Alaskan bush.
Of course, it hasn’t been smooth sailing. People often criticized Billy Brown’s interactions with his kids off-camera, but the family is clearly feeling his absence in a big way. Not only that, but the Browns continue to have some drama both on and off camera. Most recently, the show seemed to gloss over a domestic violence situation that landed Bear Brown in jail.
Bear Brown Was Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

Most fans were a bit skeptical of Bear Brown’s romance with his now-wife Raiven Adams. The two split after announcing that Raiven was pregnant with their first child, then reconciled and later got married.
In May 2022, Bear revealed that the couple was expecting their second child, due sometime in fall 2022. In June, the news emerged that it would be another son for Bear and Raiven.
The catch is that before their pregnancy reveal for baby number two, Bear was arrested for domestic violence against his wife. The news made headlines but doesn’t seem to have been mentioned by Alaskan Bush People or Discovery.
Instead, The Sun broke the news in March 2022 that Bear Brown was arrested for “domestic violence assault in the fourth degree,” on March 11th.
Bear spent the weekend in jail, then was released without bond. He was to return to court in April for a hearing.
Bear And Raiven Brown Have A Troubled Past

The Sun pointed out that the March arrest wasn’t the first time Bear and Raiven experienced difficulties in their relationship. In 2020, when Raiven was pregnant with the couple’s first son, River, she filed a restraining order against Bear.
At the time, Raiven said her partner was “erratic” and “abusive.” She also accused Bear of drug abuse. After River was born, the couple fought over custody (Raiven wanted Bear to have supervised visitation with the premature baby) for some time.
Of course, they seemed to have patched things up by the time they got married in January 2022.
Viewers Think Alaskan Bush People Is Hiding Things

In a thread discussing Bear’s March 2022 arrest, viewers suggested that Discovery has been hiding things and protecting the Brown family from accusations.
Some viewers suggest Raiven is actually the problem, not a victim. Though there was pushback from some viewers who say critics are unfairly victim-blaming Raiven, other fans seem to agree, pointing out that the show has never suggested any of the family is violent.
With years of footage for Alaskan Bush People, some fans thought it unlikely that the showrunners were cutting footage of anyone in the family being violent or getting physical.
Yet it’s possible that the crew wasn’t filming when the alleged domestic violence incident happened, though that doesn’t explain the fact that they didn’t comment on the situation at all.
Of course, given that the episodes aren’t filmed or released in real-time, perhaps Discovery will have a statement to include at a later date when footage from around that time eventually airs.
But looking back in the Brown family’s history, there are hints that everything isn’t what it seems.
For example, matriarch Amora (Ami) married Billy Brown when she was only 15. Prior to his marriage to Ami, the late Billy Brown had previously been married and has two older children that have only featured very briefly on the reality series.
What’s Next For Alaskan Bush People?

Since the alleged domestic violence incident, Alaskan Bush People has apparently continued filming.
The recent seasons do show a different side of the family, with daughter Snowbird reflecting on her life and future, Gabe adopting a new style, possibly thanks to his wife, and all the young families (Gabe, Noah, and Bear) navigating life much the way their dad did back in the early days.
At the time of publication, Alaskan Bush People is in its 14th season, but very early in it. There’s no telling what secrets may come out of the season, or whether the show will continue to film after the season concludes.
