Doctor Who Retcons Davros?! NEW Fourteenth Doctor Scene Breakdown & Things You Missed!
Saying that disability means that someone can’t be evil could also be considered offensive. They are after all people and embody the full spectrum of humanity.
The wheelchair thing is extremely silly. The whole point of Davros is that he’s artificially extended his own life hundreds of years beyond when he should have died. His physical body is in an extreme state of decay and almost nothing works anymore. The creator of the Daleks is, himself, just a step away from becoming a nameless Dalek himself.
Never, ever thought of Davros as a “wheelchair user.” I always just figured he lost his mobility as part of the Kaled mutation so built his “movement device” to get around. He was always evil, not suddenly evil after becoming disabled. In short, I don’t agree with the change
In my eyes the idea of a disabled character can’t be evil just because they are disabled is just as insulting instead of changing a disabled character to be not disabled introduce a character who is good
I may be odd, but I never thought of Davros as being disabled, I just always thought he had chosen to be part Dalek!
I have cerebral palsy, and as a wheelchair user I never took Davros as being offensive, so I hope this is just a pre-genesis appearance, and not a permanent recon! That being said, I really did enjoy this sketch quite a bit and I want to read the comics, but I’m not sure if they’re available here in the US or not.
I personally dont agree with RTD in saying that Davros was offensive to disabled people by being a guy in a wheelchair. I see why he was a normal guy in the special since this is a prequel to his first appearance in Genesis of The Daleks. I always saw Davros chair as his life support system sine he literally put his body, blood and organs into creating the daleks.
