Emmerdale in ‘never done before storyline’ after Marlon and Rhona baby bombshell

EXCLUSIVE: Emmerdale's Mark Charnock and Zoe Henry are taking part in a storyline which has never been played out on a soap before after Rhona brings home baby Ivy

Emmerdale are currently airing a storyline that has never been played out on a soap.

In recent weeks, Marlon (Mark Charnock) discovered Gus (Alan McKenna) and his partner Lucy went against Rhona’s wishes and used her embryos. Rhona confronted the couple but the altercation in the street took a distressing turn when Lucy doubled over in pain, her waters having broke.

After giving birth to baby Ivy, Lucy was pronounced dead. During Tuesday’s episode (December 5) of the ITV soap, Mary (Louise Jameson) was shocked to discover Rhona had secretly visiting Ivy at the hospital.

She eventually came clean to a stunned Marlon. The next day, Rhona planned to take supplies round to Gus.

An unimpressed Gus stared at them, clearly shattered. An encouraged Rhona wasted no time stepping inside.

Spotting Gus asleep on the sofa, Rhona took the opportunity to cradle a sleeping Ivy. Mary was alarmed to see Rhona holding sleeping Ivy and Gus was furious when he woke up, demanding they both leave.

Actor Mark touched upon the complexity of the storyline and teased that the beloved couple could be torn apart. He exclusively told Daily Star and other press: “From Rhona’s point of view, she has this undeniable biological connection to the baby.

“But I think Marlon’s going to find it really hard to resolve himself to Rhona’s obsession. I don’t think this story has been done before in this way and I think we’re on the cusp of something.

“The cracks are going to form and go in all sorts of different directions. The possibilities for this story are endless. It’s thrilling to be a part of it and to see where it could go.”
