A number of Emmerdale characters are set to face deadly danger this Christmas, as someone is shot in terrifying scenes.

This year has been a dramatic one for Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who hid the fact he had fathered his first child with Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) while agreeing to go through with his wedding to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).

Over the course of the year he has been torn between them, but realised where his heart truly lied when he made the split second decision to save Charity over Chloe when their car was teetering on the edge of the cliff.

With Chloe having survived and been dumped by Mack, she made the decision to run away with son Reuben, and call on dad Damon Harris (Robert Beck) for back up.

Viewers will know Damon better as gangster Harry who kidnapped Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) earlier this year and left even bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) quaking in his boots.

Recent scenes have seen Damon enact his revenge on Mack for his treatment of Chloe by taking him hostage in an abandoned factory.

‘Mackenzie gets tied up in the warehouse and that’s when he discovers the living truth of what Damon is and what he’s capable of doing,’ actor Lawrence Robb explained.

‘That was great fun to film. Yeah, that was brilliant. Very cold. That was why I said it was going to be a cold Christmas this year. It was massive fun.’

As Mack’s ordeal goes on, Charity will grow increasingly worried about her missing partner, and soon she and Chas will start to connect the dots of what has happened when they spot Damon forcing Chloe into the back of a car, having realised that she had set Mack free.

Unfortunately, her attempts to rescue him hadn’t worked, and she is shocked when she arrives at the factory with Damon and sees the state Mack is in.

As Damon prepares to deliver another beating to Mack, a furious row erupts between father and daughter, who are unaware that they are no longer alone with Mack in the factory.

With Damon and Chloe screaming at each other, Chas and Charity creep silently through the factory, but are startled as Chas is caught by one of Damon’s heavies as she tries to call the police.

‘Chas is having PTSD from her experience,’ actress Emma Atkins revealed. ‘But obviously, Charity can’t do it alone and they end up at this disused warehouse and they follow the noise because at this point, the cars have been separated so they’re not there in time to know exactly where he is.

‘That’s where they go on this mission to try and locate Mackenzie and it’s revealed it’s not a particularly pleasant experience at all.’

Thankfully, Charity’s quick thinking and a plank of wood to his head sees Chas set free, and soon she is running off to call the police, leaving Charity to venture further into the factory alone.

As she approaches the area where Damon is holding Mack at gunpoint, Mack subtly warns her to stay away, but Charity ignores him and leaps to his defence.

‘She’s crazy about Mackenzie, and she’ll do anything to make sure he’s okay. So that’s one thing they’ve got in common. And that’s where moral compass just goes out of the window, I guess.’

As Charity and Damon wrestle, a gunshot rings out, but who has been shot?
