Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) made it clear a few days ago in Emmerdale that he didn’t like the prospect of looking after baby Ivy.

Ivy’s is Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) biological daughter but not her legal one. Ivy was born after Rhona’s ex-partner Gus stole her embryo so new partner Lucy could get pregnant.

Lucy died shortly after Ivy was born and because Gus hasn’t been coping, Rhona has found herself helping out.

After Christmas, Rhona received a letter from Gus and asked her to look after Ivy while he processes Lucy’s death. Rhona, already emotionally attached to Ivy, of course agreed to the request – but it left Marlon and Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) wondering how Rhona would cope if Gus returned and took Ivy from her.

Rhona has previously highlighted that she knows that might happen but for now, Gus isn’t around, so she wants to spend time with her child.

One person most certainly caught in the middle of this all is Marlon.

The beloved character is months on from being discharged at the stroke clinic – of course looking after a newborn isn’t at the top of his list.

But despite his worries, looking after a newborn is what Marlon has chosen to do, as Emmerdale’s first episode of the new year featured Rhona and Marlon in the pub back room discussing what the next few weeks might bring.

Rhona said that she absolutely loves Ivy and knows things won’t be easy, but they can get through it.

Marlon then confirmed as long as Ivy is at their home, he will do everything he can do help.

But if Gus returns, what will that do to Rhona?
