It looks like Abe has one less thing to worry about on Days of Our Lives (which is good, because between his memory loss and the slimeball acting mayor, he’s got his hands full) because Whitley King will not be making a return appearance! Kim Coles has wrapped up her run as the increasingly unbalanced, cat loving, Annie Wilkes idolizing nurse.

It shouldn’t come as a ton of surprise as, after kidnapping, drugging, brainwashing and holding Abe hostage for months, there wasn’t a whole lot of room left for her on the canvas. And when she tried killing Lani and offing herself and Abe, her fate was all but written.

A tense Whitley and Marlena hold opposite ends of a long umbrella. Jada holds a gun on Whitley, as Rafe watches from the apartment doorway.

With that said, we wrapped up her run with an understanding of just how damaged Whitley was and how much she’d broken from reality and the show didn’t kill her off. So while Soap Opera Digest reports in their latest issue that she’s gone, Days of Our Lives does love visiting folks in Bayview (see Harris, Eve and Ava) and we all know that Salem just can’t keep a good villain down, so it’s not impossible that she’ll pop up again someday.

And now that Coles has gotten a daytime run under her belt, she may be up to trying it again! While the actress was initially nervous to take on the role having never done drama before, her fears were fairly quickly put to ease. “I want to do a quick shout-out to Jim Reynolds,” she told SOD, “who was the most lovely, wonderful partner to play with. I mean, he could not have been more lovely, and actually showed me the ropes, too. Jim gave me permission to make it my own. I wanna give him the biggest hug; he’s the best.”

A cringing Abe tenses up in his wheelchair. Smiling, Whitley leans over his shoulder.

Well, let’s just hope that Whitley gets the help she needs in Bayview so that if she does return someday, it’ll be to make amends with those she hurt… and tried to kill! Heck, if serial killers can become leading men, there shouldn’t be anything holding Nurse Whitley back! And if nothing else, she did give us the next great soap opera: Body and Soul!
