Emmerdale has aired a shock exit for Chloe Harris tonight – as Jessie Elland departs the soap for good.

In sad scenes tonight, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) decided to side with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) after the shooting of Chloe’s evil father Damon Harris (Robert Beck). As the police sped to the location, Chloe told Mack he had to make a final choice between the pair of them and unsurprisingly he chose Charity once and for all.

It was then down to Chloe to make one final request and she told Mack she wouldn’t shop Charity to the police, but only if he never saw their son Reuben again and let them leave the Dales and start a new life elsewhere.

In emotional scenes, Mack begged for five minutes with Chloe and there were tears all round as he said goodbye to his son once and for all. Angry, Chloe eventually snatched the child away from him and got into a waiting taxi to depart the village for good.

Chloe only recently connected with her dad, with the big revelation that he was actually Harry – who had been terrorising the Dingles for months – airing just a few weeks back. Wanting revenge on Mackenzie, Harry tortured him in a disused warehouse.

Speaking about the father and daughter bond, she said: “Chloe feels so pushed by Mack’s behaviour that she has reached out to her father. That encapsulates what the relationship is like. She hasn’t got in touch with him for two years, but she feels so desperate. She has nowhere else to turn, so that last resort is to turn to her dad. It’s shown how dire circumstances have got for Chloe.

“Moving forward, there is hope from Chloe that maybe her dad has changed. She’s clinging onto that naïve hope that maybe there could be a little family unit and he might change his ways. I think Chloe does cling on to that to some extent. But you’ll have to wait and see whether that happens, or whether he can’t change who he is.”

Just days before her soap exit, Jessie described it as “amazing” having built a little family up around her.

“It’s amazing and a real treat, especially considering how different the dynamics are with each character – the relationship with Kerry, and then the relationship with Amy. It’s really fun to work on with Natalie [who plays Amy]. Now the relationship with Harry is so different and there’s baby Reuben too. There’s such diversity with the relationships and it’s really fun,” she said.
