Five years ago, Barr was fired from the show “The Conners.” Her self-titled show, “Roseanne,” was also canceled, and Barr was left heartbroken by how it was handled. However, she returned to the spotlight with her standup comedy special, “Roseanne Barr: Can This!”
The special will coincide with the release of a documentary about Barr’s life called “Who Is Roseanne Barr?” Although she has much to look forward to now, it hasn’t been this way for her for quite some time.
In May 2018, Barr’s self-titled show was canceled because of a tweet she sent out that was offensive to the President’s adviser, Valerie Jarret. She called Jarret “the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.”

She quickly realized her mistake and wanted to extend a formal apology to Jarret, but her show executives would not let her. Talking about it, she said:
“During the initial call, I told them I thought [Jarret] was white. I said I would go on my show and explain it. They wouldn’t let me. They decided I was a liar in my apology.”

Barr felt she was denied the right to apologize for what she had said and lost her livelihood because of it. She has faced the consequences and plans to make a return to Hollywood with a bang.
How Did Barr Feel After She Was Fired and What Did Sara Gilbert Do?
Sara Gilbert, who worked alongside Barr on “Roseanne” and “The Conners,” made matters worse for Barr when she tweeted mere minutes before Barr was fired from the show and had her life turned around.

Just short of half an hour before ABC announced the cancellation of “Roseanne,” Sara Gilbert sent out a tweet that said she did not support what Barr had said, and neither did any of the rest of the cast or crew.
Barr was hurt by the show’s cancellation and shocked by what Gilbert had done to her after they had worked together for many years. Barr confessed:
“She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet. She will never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine Chianti.”

While Barr felt the tweet was a malicious attack by Gilbert, Gilbert went on to do an interview a while later in which she said the opposite. She mentioned that even though Barr was no longer a part of the cast, she would always consider her family and love her.
Barr took a long time to heal from what her costars had done to her and the pain of knowing she had offended someone so terribly. However, she is now doing much better and is hopeful for the future.
She mentioned that while everything was happening, she didn’t think there was any light at the end of the tunnel. Although she now sees that there are better days ahead, when she was in the midst of it, she thought there would be no end.

Talking about what it felt like to deal with not only her network but her costars turning against her after the tweet, she said:
“It was a witch-burning. And it was terrifying… I would die many times.”

Barr felt that apart from those in her inner circle, there was nobody that wanted to be around her. She admitted: “Oh my God, they just hated me so badly. I had never known that they hated me like that.”
What Has Barr Said About Double Standards in Hollywood and the Death of Her Career?
After her show was canceled, Barr admitted to being shocked. She didn’t think the network would cancel the show because of its excellent ratings. The actress said nothing of the sort had happened to male actors in her position, even those who had done worse than she had. She lamented:
“I’m the only person who’s lost everything, whose life’s work was stolen, stolen by people who I thought loved me.”

Even though “The Conners” is still running, Barr said she can’t bear to watch it. She said: “They killed my character, and… all of that was to say thank you for bringing 28 million viewers, which they never had before and will never see again.”
